Isn't it cute how Sue keeps trying to get it back to the original topic?sue d. wrote:More fan photos... this time we can see Bob, Cristian and a little bit of Greg:

Well....that's not really what I'm trying to do. You can talk all you want about the state of music.
I'm just showing you all some pix!

Well, than I'll help keep this topic "off - topic"...
FYI, I use Linux for all of the above.

What recording software are you using. Everything I have seen for Linux is what ProTools was 15 years ago. Ardour was originally Linux. I don't know if they are even developing it now. SSL dropped support of it long ago.zak89 wrote:Well, than I'll help keep this topic "off - topic"...![]()

Re: Any Hills Alive Show Report?
Ardour is doing very well actually - they're prepping their next big release (3.0) - among other things this will be the first version to include MIDI capabilities (Ardour has been an audio-only DAW for a while). Community support has been growing, so adoption is picking up some. JACK (sort of the "rewire"/sound server for pro-audio Linux) is working towards version 2.0 - they finally got decent audio over LAN support, which is really cool for multi-machine workflows.
Also of late some really nice guitar fx have come out (Rakarack, Guitarix). Here's a fairly recent article of a studio that swtiched to Linux: http://www.itwire.com/opinion-and-analy ... d-decision
And a fairly recent screenshot of Ardour 2.x (3.0 is much better looking, though): http://ardour.org/files/ardour-2.5.png

That's good. I couldn't use it because I do need MIDI.
You guys should check out Presonus Studio One. It is VERY killer. It is not quite where PT8 is in functionality, but it is very good and only getting better.

A couple shots of Ardour/MIDI: http://drobilla.net/files/ardour_midi_tempo_change.png; http://linux-sound.org/images/blog/full ... 3-midi.png. I haven't used MIDI much, so it was never an issue for me (and there's a wealth of linux sequencers/samplers/synths that can be patched into Ardour with a click of the mouse, thanks to JACK)
Ardour also runs well on OS X (along with JACK) so on the Mac you can get the best of both worlds. For me, Linux does everything I need to (and more) as far as pro-audio; my own skill (and gear - or lack thereof) is the bottleneck, not my software. But I'm no Richard Stallman - if I come to a point where I need commercial software to do what I need done, I'll use it. I'm a pragmatist at heart.

Hey, look at the Harrison mixer. They are in tight with Ardour. Supposedly it will take your sounds up a notch, because it has the same EQ and comp math as their digital console.
I am running ProTools HD3, as well as a couple of others, watching and waiting. Native processing is not there yet for the scope of projects I do. Reaper is another one to watch. Have you checked it out?

These are the audio/video apps I have installed, I use Audacity a bit, would like to know more about some professional audio tools for Linux.

Re: Any Hills Alive Show Report?
Along with that. The whole Farewell project, to me, was not as good as it could have been. The music and vocals were off from the video at times. The camera was jumping all over the place.
The CD is all muffled with volume inconsistancies. It's to bad the original recording couldn't be re-mastered to be crisp and clear because the crunchy guitar is there, its just masked by the muffled bass that was added in.

Well, it ought to. Mac OS X is just linux anyway with a different X Windows layout and different interfaces and is Unix certified ...zak89 wrote: Ardour also runs well on OS X (along with JACK) so on the Mac you can get the best of both worlds.
