Before I say this I think that before Petra should do this that the Classic Petra thing should run its 3 year projected course.
Rerelease every album in digitally remastered form and add live versions of 3 songs that are on that particular album. Bon Jovi is doing this as of right now and according to the band has seen a huge revival of their music not only online but on the radio. Live Versions of Livin' On Prayer and Believe right now are on the charts and are doing very well. They plan on releasing others to radio very shortly. Def Leppard, Journey, and others are said to be working on something along the same lines.
BTW Don't Stop Believing and Livin' On a Prayer are the top 2 songs of all time in downloads.
Another senerio would be after Classic Petra is through with its 3 year projected coarse that Petra with John, Bob, Mark/Ronnie, Larwy, and Louie do the same as Classic Petra has done; Go in and rerecord and add a few new tunes to the John Era.

Re: Good Idea????
Ok, I'll break my silence in order to comment on this one. I think this is a great idea. Especially for BTTS and TMW as those two albums are badly in need of it. The albums after that have a better mix and sound better overall, but I suppose some of those could be done as well. This Means War desperately needs to have Bob's guitar brought up more like it is in On Fire.

Re: Good Idea????
I'd love to see some remasters, if it can be justified financially and the label hassles can be worked out. If Still Means War is any indication of what can be done, I'd re-buy all of 'em.

Re: Good Idea????
I wouldn't hold my breath. Re-mastering cannot replace the bad sounds on the master tapes. Those E brothers records need to be re-recorded and that is something those guys (or any funder with common sense) will never do. What they could do is locate those multitrack tapes (assuming they are still around. EMI didn't know where they were) and have Louie re-track the drums with a great sounding acoustic kit, in a great room, with great mics. They could re-record or re-amp Bob's guitars so they don't sound so dated and thin. Remix and master that, and I would buy it. THAT would be cool. But how many other people would buy it? Not many.
Lets go back a bit and consider Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi made their success catering to females first and foremost. They sell chess appeal (I saved the software time and typed Chess myself) as much as music. Actually, I would say now, the chess appeal is first. Petra doesn't work like that, and has a dominantly male audience. Gals buy more than guys for more reasons than the music.
John Bonjiovi is on record stating that he doesn't care if they ever release a new CD again, because it costs him money and people don't care. They have to have other companies eat that expense. They will continue to tour for sure, because that is money directly in their pockets. They make their money from merch and packages. Some friends of mine just went to Nashville and had one of those packaged seats, passes, etc. Petra is ugly and the Christian community will never handle paying for access to "stars", because that "is part of their ministry to talk to people." Christians barely pay for recorded music and concert tickets now.
The remasters are a good trade off for BJ because BJ has a huge "green tree" and cannot release new music that holds up to the music that made them. This is the same for all artists. This is why they all play the oldies after a while. People just don't care for new music from old artists most of the time.

Re: Good Idea????
This basically what Classic Petra is doing with the pre 1986 catalog. I don't see why it could not be done when Classic Petra runs its 3 yr coarse.
