Classic Petra On Line Store

That looks like the Jekyll and Hyde logo on the back, I'm getting me one!

I agree. That should be the album cover. Get rid of the halo looking space guy.

Re: Classic Petra On Line Store
It will be important to remember these songs in their proper context. These may not necessarilly be rock tunes in the modern sense of the word. As some of you point out, the early Petra music is today's elevator music compared to mainstream hard rock, with angry singers, over compressed drums and guitars, etc. So, just remember that these are tuned down modernizations of classic tunes, mith a more modern mix. If you think of the old tunes as rock, then you will be happy. If you already are biased towards the new stuff, then you will not likely be won over. The purpose of the music is not to win over modern listeners according to Greg. It is to take back the older audience and those who like the older genre or music.

Ummm, I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the album artwork, to begin with. Not sure why, but it doesn't look all that professional to me. Just seems very low-budget, done with whatever Photoshop expertise the designer could muster, which is a contrast to the original early-1980s albums, which were obviously hand-painted and very cool looking (particularly MPTY). Meh, that's just my opinion, and I know I'm in the minority on that one, and it's certainly not going to stop me from buying the album; I've got plenty of CDs with album art I like a whole lot less.
But I will use that as a preface to say: If this is the only T-Shirt they're offering, I'm going to have a hard time buying one. Contrast this with the "Farewell Tour" shirts, which were very modern and high-quality -- and not simply a rehash of the most recent album cover. Now maybe this is just a rough draft and they'll have more designs or punch this one up some more, but using the "Jekyll & Hyde" typeface and styling on the back does not strike me as professional at all. It's about branding. If you have a logo affiliated with a project, you use that logo. You don't use the logo of previous projects that are only tangentially related to this one.
I guess we'll see what happens when the album comes out and the shows get kicked off in earnest, but I'm sad to say I'm a bit underwhelmed by the merchandise as presented.

Let's keep in mind folks that they are funding all this themselves. No record company behind them making everything pretty. That said, I think we should be thankful it all looks as good as it does. Personally, I'm very pleased with the album cover. Best cover they've they had since This Means War if you ask me.

Re: Classic Petra On Line Store
I understand the self-funding aspect. I also understand there are plenty of college art/design students who would love the chance to add to their portfolio at little or no cost to the band. Heck, have a contest at a handful of Christian colleges and high schools, show the previous album covers and the new logo/title as some inspiration and give $1,000 to the winner. But whatever. What's done is done, as far as the artwork goes.Preacherman777 wrote:Let's keep in mind folks that they are funding all this themselves. No record company behind them making everything pretty. As for the shirt, I don't care how self-funded you are, there's no excuse for ripping off a previous logo to use on a new project when you already have a logo for the new project. It's just not very professional. Will they be paying the designer of the J&H logo (the rights to which are probably owned by Inpop Records anyhow) a percentage of the merch they sell with that logo on it?

It's better than many, many covers released today. Have you guys ever gone to Best Buy and just looked at the meaningless crap people put on covers? So much is faddish and looks the same.Daniel wrote:I probably was done by a student, it's not perfect.. but it's better then Washes Whiter than right?CatNamedManny wrote:I understand the self-funding aspect. Aww, I like WWT. It's very kitschy. Which works when the album is 30 years old.Daniel wrote:I probably was done by a student, it's not perfect.. but it's better then Washes Whiter than right?CatNamedManny wrote:I understand the self-funding aspect. Hey, if you have the original album on vinyl, I'll take it. I've got Never Say Die, More Power to Ya, Not of This World and Beat the System framed in my house. I'd love to add WWT and CITAS.Daniel wrote:You like the WWT cover, well I know what to get you framed for Christmas Manny.
