John Schlitt's involvement
Re: John Schlitt's involvement
Sue, there were not three ClassicPetra concert dates posted....you mean the Petra reunion dates, right? Until recently, there were no firm dates at all.
As for John recording a solo record....people here have said that John should just record something and stick it out on the internet and it will sell. (The internet is just a phone line, a radio frequency, a news stand. Unless someone has a means to get to it, knows to search for you, is allowed to see the content, has a monetary exchange mechanism, etc, sales will not happen on their own. The internet in and of itself is not a store. It is a communications tool. Amazon and iTunes are political hot topics and not allowed in all countries. Paypal is not allowed in all countries. Youtube, Skype, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter are not allowed in all countries with the same level of accessibility.) Well, no it won't and no it didn't. We have the same international distributor. I know what John sells aside from the concert merch table. People are just not buying internationally. In fact I have some new stats that show CCM/Rock as a whole is about dead, except for Christmas, childrens and instrumental. Why is this where there are so many packed festivals and fans overseas? Piracy and theft. All of the major distributors fight it and are dialing way back, because the efforts to get product to market are just not paying off. John has a great product line and does his part. It is not all on him. It is the market.

Re: John Schlitt's involvement
Felipe, if you will read Sue's post, there was nothing in it to indicate there was a problem with John not being "happy". I think she answered the question Timbo asked earlier very clearly. My question is, why are you assuming John would be unhappy about this? Send me a private message if you don't want to get into it here if you would like. I'm really honestly curious and trying to understand why you would assume that.fcollazo wrote:Now Sue, is John happy about his co-Petra alumni and what God has in store for them, like a good man of God should?

No man, is just that the whole thing makes me wonder, because as we know, John and Louie can not see each other not even in a painting, and then John said Greg was one of his heroes. I think that John should be happy about it and if he mentions it in his site as a good cheer, it does not take anything away from him.

Re: John Schlitt's involvement
Here we go again speculating about what goes on between the band members. Why don't we give that a rest? Just because it's not mentioned on John's website does not mean he's "unhappy" and it's totally unfair and WRONG (yes, WRONG) to make assumptions and speculate.
Let's not get into this here, if you want to talk to me more about it, send me a private message.

Cool, did not mean to ruffle any feathers, but if there's now issue, why do we have this thread in the first place?

Re: John Schlitt's involvement
I was with them when they saw each other in a public place (I believe for the first time in 2005) and they were civil. The shook hands and made small talk. It has been a long time. Maybe everything has cooled down.

Re: John Schlitt's involvement
Sue pretty much answered my question. I just thought it would be cool if John at least was invited to lay down some back ground vocals or something. I thought the acoustic set, especially Coloring song was awesome with John's voice backing up Greg's on that song. What would really get me excited is a classic Petra album with John singing the classics. Why should the Father bother with John singing during the II guys thing was incredible!

Re: John Schlitt's involvement
IMO John has never been at his best singing classic Petra stuff. He does ok, but I'd much rather hear Greg do it. On the same token, I'd prefer not hear Greg try to John's stuff either.

Re: John Schlitt's involvement
Ok, listen up. I think if John and Greg both stopped by the site to read what fans are saying they would laugh. Do you honestly think those guys debate over who’s the better vocal? They have a life to live and all you guys can do is argue about whose better. You can’t even compare them.
Greg has a smooth vintage voice that allows him to hit high notes in falsetto for that smooth late 70s, early 80s Classic Rock sound.
John has that harsh edgy Rock voice that allows him to belt out high notes with all the rock force that you would expect in a hard hitting late 80s, early 90s Rock Sound.
Two eras that absolutely never crosses paths. You can’t compare them. They are both legendary in their respective time period.

Re: John Schlitt's involvement
Bob's the best vocalist, end of story. He told me in a private email that he's always known this, but said he was just too humble to get up on stage and grab all that attention for himself. Imagine the temptation of being the world's greatest guitarist (his words, not mine) and having a voice better than both John and Greg combined. He confessed it's been really difficult to remain humble.
I really feel for the guy. I'd hate to have all that talent.

Re: John Schlitt's involvement
Which is exactly why I prefer not to hear them singing each others stuff if I can get the original. But yes, there are always those John loyalists who think he's the greatest vocalist to ever sing a note and would rather hear him sing anything over anyone. I believe some of those people are feeling very threatened right now (pointless I know) and are therefore doing whatever they can to try and diminish Greg. Just my opinion folks.Ok, listen up. Bform, you are too much! lol
It really doesn't make any sense to compare apples to oranges.... ALL of Petra's vocalists have had different styles and different abilities. They were all used at a particular time for a particular style.
