Introduce Yourself Thread

Post by Shell » Thu Mar 31, 2005 8:49 pm

We haven't done this for awhile, I thought it would be fun to give new people a chance to introduce themselves. Go ahead and copy and paste and add whatever you like to my list:

Name: Michelle

Age: Let's just say I'm old enough to have learned a few things and young enough to know how to have fun.

Occupation: Medical transcriptionist/student

Hair/Eye Color: Dark brown, nearly black hair and hazel eyes.

Favorite Band: Do you even need to ask? :D However, I do listen to bands besides Petra.

Favorite Petra Moment(s): Several, but the first time I saw Greg in concert in Irvine in 1984, the first time I saw John in concert in L.A. in 1987 or 1988, meeting John in 1990 and the Pethead Convention in 2003 are at the top of the list.

Brothers/Sisters: Three younger brothers. Three nephews and two nieces. Oldest bro has a little boy who will be a year old in April (hard to believe). Other two bros both have a boy and a girl.

Hobbies: Playing with my nieces and nephews.

Favorite Author(s): Christian: Max Lucado and Frank Peretti. Secular: Mary Higgins Clark...Okay, maybe that's corny, but she manages to write good stories without all the sex and violence...And Tess Gerritsen. She writes good medical mysteries.

Favorite T.V. show(s): I don't watch a lot of T.V. and what I do watch are usually reruns on cable. Most of the stuff on T.V. any more is crap. I'd rather read or listen to music.

Best Quality: Fun loving personality.

Animals: Yes, a dog and she's a beast, I'm going to sell her for cat food one of these days. Also a cat that the dog likes to torment.

Favorite Quote: You reap what you sow.

Favorite Bible Verse: John 3:16.

Favorite Place: Barnes and Noble.

Favorite City: Seal Beach, CA.

Favorite Movie: Polar Express. I actually like just about anything with Tom Hanks.

Favorite Movie Line: Several, but I love "there'll be no living with her now" from Pirates.

Dopiest Thing You've Ever Done: Probably admitting here I thought David Hasselhoff was sort of cute. In my defense, I did say "sort of" and I did not say I thought he was especially talented. The talking car in "Knight Rider" was cool though. :D :P

Name: Olga

Age: 31

Occupation: Female Prisoner Warden In Training

Hair/Eye Color: Dark brown, on both accounts

Favorite Band: Petra (runner up: local band Red Square)

Favorite Petra Moment(s): It was 1987. I was 13 years old. It had been a long and terrible day. I waited in a breadline for hours with my mother and my siblings for a loaf of moldy bread and a grotesque slice of cow tongue. I laid in bed that night, crying, hating my life and miserable existence. Turning on my transistor radio for comfort, I heard over the crackle, that powerful song, More Power to You. It gave me the hope to keep living, and dreaming.

Brothers/Sisters: Boris, Natasha, Igor, Leo, Ekaterina, Sergei, Fyodor, Ivan, Petr, Svetlana

Hobbies: Beating prisoners with my nightstick (I joke, I joke), Babuska doll making, Bat hunting

Favorite Author(s): Pasternak, Tolstoy, Doestoevsky, Checkhov

Favorite T.V. show(s): COPS

Best Quality: Putting the fear of God into inmates

Animals: my two huskies, Marx and Engels

Favorite Quote: Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

Sir Winston Churchill, Hansard, November 11, 1947

Favorite Bible Verse: Ezekiel 16:49-50 `Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen...Arrogant, overfed, and unconcernedhmmmmmm.

Favorite Place: Siberia

Favorite City: St. Petersburg, Russia

Favorite Movie: John Q. Incredible that those in the richest nation on earth, with the best hospitals, and best medicines, are limited in their access to these things by their ability to pay. Terrible.

Favorite Movie Line: If he dies, he dies. Drakos speak on Apollo Creed in Rocky 4.

You're a writer, Bridget? That's pretty cool. What do you write about? I'd like to write a book one of these days; maybe a good title would be "The Life and Times of the Petra Zone" or "As the Zone Turns" LOL.

Hehe, I heard about the shenanigans certain people who shall remain nameless pulled at the motel. :D I got a kick out of it, serves a certain lead singer right as far as I'm concerned.

Wisconsin is beautiful, Elo, but I don't know if I could handle living there during the winter; I'm spoiled from living in California.

Interesting, good to see some facts about people!

Name: Micah

Age: 30

Occupation: Missionary computer geek

Brownish hair, blue eyes

Band: Petra by far. Not even sure on the second. Like a lot of stuff by Third Day, Sonicflood, and Delirious but they have songs that annoy me, unlike Petra.

Petra moments: Unfortunately I've only seen them in concert once, at Jesus Northwest 1994. Want to again, but it's unlikely to be possible anytime soon, given that I live in South America.

Siblings: None

Hobbies: Computers, reading, travel, hiking

Favorite authors: Don Richardson, Hugh Ross, Loren Cunningham

TV? :P Hate TV for the most part. Haven't had one in well over a year. The only shows I kind of miss are The O'Reilly Factor and Jeopardy!.

Best quality? Hmm, dunno. Maybe that I try to seek Biblical truth.

Animals: None currently. Love most cats. Hate most dogs. (Sorry, but it's true. Most dogs around here are nothing but noise polluting vermin. I often have to sleep with earplugs to avoid getting woken up in the middle of the night by barking.)

Quote: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot loose." -- Jim Elliot, missionary who died while trying to take the Gospel to the Auca tribe in the jungle east of here. (They have since been mostly evangelized, and are called the Waoroni.)

Favorite Bible verse: Hmm, there are lots of incredible ones. Right now I'm super awed at the first half of Ephesians 2, since we recently studied it in Bible Study Fellowship. It describes the depth from which Christ pulled us (we were "by nature objects of wrath") to the heights to which He has lifted us (we are now seated with Him at God's throne). Amazing.

Favorite Place: Areas of natural beauty. Highlights of the places I've been: Angel Falls (and the surrounding jungle), Venezuela; Lauca National Park, northern Chile; Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Yellowstone NP; Jasper NP, Alberta; Oregon Cascades.

Favorite City: Maybe Washington, DC

Favorite Movie: Don't really like movies either. I might say "The Christmas Story" but I've seen it so many times I'm bored of it.

Dopiest thing: Programming my computer in college to dial (almost) all 450 dorm room phone numbers in the middle of the night.....

Wife's name is Michele
Three daughters Katelyn (13), Lauren (11), Allison (8)
Live in Tulsa, OK, which was oe of the best places for CCM, but will be moving to Kansas City soon...maybe.
I like the #1 at Taco Bueno, R4 at Leongs, Steak and shrimp at Abuello's, and all of the outside lines of Battleship.
I dislike growing older, squinting at my 23" computer screen with 48 pt fonts, and making noises when I walk, bend or....
Fav band...hmmm, I guess I am obligated eh?
Pets are a bird and a cat. Black lab went blind so he went to doggy heaven this year. I miss my dog! Suppose we will have our pets up there?

When I was in Guatemala, people shot off fireworks all night almost every night my group stayed in San Antonio Aguas Calientes. I think they were celebrating independence or something like that. (This was during June.) Don't ask me to tell you about Guatemalan history. Then every morning, buses pulled up by the school, honking their horns and waking us up . (The school year in Guatemala is different than here.) Stray dogs roamed around there - they were all scrawny (due to being underfed) and shied away from people, so that's how I figured they were stray. I don't think I had much problem with them barking, though.
- - - - -

Favorite movies I have seen: The Prince of Egypt, Happy Gilmore, Radio, Wayne's World (both 1 and 2)

Favorite Nintendo game from when I was a kid: Mega Man 6

Best Petra moments: Listening to On Fire for the first several times in 2000

A favorite Bible verse: Well, guess what - I gotta look this one up too. (I have a little Gideon but I still don't carry it around with me all the time)

A favorite quote: "Your eyes are a little bigger than your stomach, eh wolfy?" (Homer Simpson while being attacked by the Ned Flanders werewolf)

Stupidest thing I've ever done: Well, not the stupidest, but among the throng of stupidest-s. On a field trip in 8th grade, I rode on a canoe in a lake with a couple other students. For some reason, one of them and I decided to switch places. On a canoe. In the middle of a lake. So we both stand up, and immediately the canoe tips over and all 3 of us fall into the lake. Our lifevests kept us afloat (thank God!), but for a few minutes we had to hold onto the canoe while waiting for a rescue boat to pick us up.[/b]

SHELL: I am sorry; I didnt mean to ignore you. I just now realized you asked me a question. What do I write? Well, a lot of things. I currently make my living as a Technical Writer doing procedures and computer systems validation for a pharmaceutical company. (Yawn) I have in the past designed and written employee newsletters, concert reviews for a rock guitarists website, personality articles, and some short stories that have thus far been for my own amusement. My goal is to publish a book someday. I have several viable ideas I am sorting through and praying about.

So you want to write a book about the Zone? You know, I have no idea how to go about writing a screenplay, but a movie like Bridget Jones Diary about people on an internet board who finally meet up could be really funny.

Bridget,

Don't worry about it, I didn't think you were ignoring me.

That was a joke; I don't really know what the title would be. You're right though, a book about people on an Internet site could be funny. That's probably not something that will happen real soon, that's for sometime in the future.

I hope it's alright for me to do this since I have horned in on this forum tonight, writing shockingly long posts after dropping off the planet earlier and abandoning the project which was the reason I joined in the first place (it'll happen some day, just a less stressful day). heh run-on sentence.

If not feel free to ignore me.

Name: Char

Age: 26

Occupation:student now. Training to be a special care aide

Hair/Eye Color: brown hair. My right eye is green; the top section of my left eye is also green, but the bottom half is very dark brown. (yes I have one two coloured eye)

Favorite Band: Well Petra of course, though I am not madly in love with them like I am with Duke. Too bad I can't invent a time machine; ah I wouldn't be good enough for him anyway.
Ooh and Fletcher Henderson too. I would have to go genre by genre really.

Favorite Petra Moment(s): heheheh I can't listen to certain albums of theirs without laughing, but the stories are too long and I'm not sure they'd translate well.

Brothers/Sisters: two brothers

Hobbies:Art-well I have a long-standing debate going on about that-though I have always been called an artist, I think a craftsperson's aesthetic suits me better. Though the pre-raphealites were artists, and just as much influenced by John Ruskin as William Morris was. Um yeah that's the debate. hope it made sense.

Favorite Author(s): I'd like to say Calvin to freak people out (and man does it ever), but I haven't read enough of him for him to be a favorite...ummmm....Charles Dickens, Homer and Aldous Huxley wrote my three favorite books (A Tale of Two Cities, the Illiad and Brave New World, respectively) so them.

Favorite T.V. show(s): Not that crazy about TV. They have taken all the old Monty Python re-runs off.

Best Quality: Determined

Animals:one cat and one whineydog. And the ecosystem beneath the house.

Favorite Quote: just one? Well I can't contain myself

Everything that is beautiful and noble is the product of reason and calculation. Charles Baudelaire
Better to think of church in the ale-house than of the ale-house at church. Martin Luther
It is an unspeakable priviledge that room is left for repentance. William Plumer

Okay I did contain myself a little.

Favorite Bible Verse:Again, just one? Just one verse?
Lamentations 3 is so agonizingly profound. Isaiah 40 beautifully comforting. Exodus 34 contains God's own dynamic and powerful nature.
But
I will be a true Deuteronomist and answer
Deuteronomy 29:29
The secret things belong to the L-RD our God, But the things revealed belong to us and our children forever, that we may obey all the words of this law.

Favorite Place: Home-where ever that may be.

Favorite City: Quebec City. Good memories there.

Favorite Movie:Probably the Maltese Falcon. Favorite movie I've just seen-I really liked the new Luther film. Except it tried to make him look too 'nice'-where was all the swearing?

Favorite Movie Line: I don't really have one. Maybe 'fasten your seatbelts...' I do love Bette Davis.

Dopiest Thing You've Ever Done: Cracked my head open on the rim of a cup while headbanging. The glass did not break-but my head sure did.
