Maybe there's a history book out there written by a metal guru who can give us the official origin?
Personally, I couldn't care less. However, Petra is NOT a heavy metal band and never was.

my brother could lol, he explained ME very well the difference of each rock type by explaining the rythm of each instrument and stuff and explained me WHY petra was hard rock but.....I can`t remember, all I heard was blablabla, blabla. Blabla... LOL j/k, he used a lot of technic words related to music but believe me, if HE says is hard rock, IS HARD ROCK.

I don't recall anyone suggesting that they are.

Reread the thread. There is discussion about whether Petra has done metal or not. That lead to a discussion about what metal is or isn't.
Maybe I should rephrase to say Petra hasn't done metal?

The subject of this thread was whether or not Petra was hard rock.

It's my fault I think! I mentioned that my brother felt they did play 70's metal, in a similar style to those bands who
in the 70's were considered metal. Which according to what is being posted would make them hard rock in most people's minds.
Problem solved?
Sorry to hijack the thread, I just love it when online converations develop organically, as in real life...
(though I would argue for an aggressively loud and bombastic sound denoting metal in it's infancy-ala Cream and Hendrix. )Okay okay I'll stop.

Dude, it doesn't matter.
Although for the record, what I said was that there was "discussion" as to whether Petra had or had not done metal. It has nothing to do with the subject of the thread. Threads tend to ramble. That's why I asked you to reread the thread.
But really, it's not big deal. I think we're all on the same page, just trying to say it with different words.

I don't mean to be picky. It's just that there is a definite difference between hard rock and metal. While Petra could never be said to have done metal, they could be said to have done hard rock.
Also, I think the reason I took issue over this was that you made your point about Petra not being metal in a rather sarcastic response to me and I had never suggested that they were.

I'm not sure which response you're referring to... I've gone back through my posts... I do apologize if I came across sarcastically. I certainly did not intend to.
Really, I'm with you 100% on your Petra comments.
I also agree that there were forerunners to metal in the 70s. What one person considers metal is always subjective.

It's cool. Maybe I was just being too sensitive.

It's hard to understand the intent of a post when you're just reading words... using emoticons help with that problem, dudes & dudettes!
