what`s an special care aid? is like a nurse or kind of a doctor?sounds interesting
:) Hi.

This is a person who works in a Care Home (nursing homes and the like) under the supervision of a nurse. We aren't trained to do as much as a nurse does, though. (I am lucky I won't have to do needles. )

Charl, OHHHHH ok, sounds interesting, what exactly do you do? do you help them in theraphies and stuff? ya know, in highschool I was studying for being a geriatric technician, is not like a nurse either, but a little bit because we leanr about sicknessses of that age and about psichology of the old people and stuff, we supposed to be trained to make dinamics for the old people in nursering homes and to be a company for them.

I thought I wanted to be a nurse when I was in high school and first started college, and I probably would have made a good nurse, but I absolutely hated math and chemistry. I would do better being an EMT or paramedic, because they have a lot of hands on training, and I learn better that way than I do in a classroom setting. However, I can't picture myself trying to lift someone who weighs 200 pounds into the back of an ambulance. I may get EMT certified one of these days and do volunteer work, but that would have to be for the future. In the meantime, medical transcription is enough of being in the medical field to suit me.

Nurses and paramedics are the backbone of the medical profession; a lot of times they'll have more of an idea of what's probably going on than the doctors do.

Shell: Like you, I briefly considered a career in the medical field when I was in high school. I think I could have handled the math and chemistry; it was the body odors, fluids, and vermin (like lice) that kept me out of the field. Mother Teresa I am not. :) My hat is off to those who are able to serve their patients with wisdom and compassion.

epdc; your description of a geriatric technician sounds very similar to what I am doing, except that I am training to work with people of all ages who need care (such as younger people who are disabled).
We also have to take courses to make sure we are temperamentally suited, and to properly defend ourselves without hurting the client. Old people will fight dirty sometimes!

if she doesn`t know you should tell her because is not fun to play the game of "he is my boyfriend but he doesn`t know" :D :D

charl, so when you say dirty you mean it in all the ways uh? hehehehe. Ya know, I admire people like you, I was in those courses and I started to visit old people`s care houses and for some reason I had to quit, I mean, it was so hard, I mean, everytime i went there i came out all sad and kinda depress ya know, like thinking "gosh, i wanna do this and that but i can`t do everything, ya know. I just couldn`t handle it. Up to know I`m better with kids.

He was busy talking/walking with someone and didn't even notice he walked into me. LOL!

Favorite T.V. show(s): 24 and CSI. Also Animal Precinct and Animal Cops.

Dopiest Thing You've Ever Done: In 8th grade the geography teacher asked if anyone was born out of the US, so my hand shot up. I was born in Montana, so I figured the question pertained to me. Nobody let me live that one down. But, how many Americans have babies overseas? So, who cares if I wasn't born in the US, ya know? LOL!
