In the post that management released it said the next one would be remakes of the classics and they would begin working on new material in April for the third album. If I'm reading between the lines correctly it sounds like the 2nd album will be all classic remakes. I really hope this is the case so they would be able to put 12 remakes on this instead of two new songs. I and most around here were not too impressed with the songs TBTF and BTTR, and would rather them save all the new material for the all new album.
Here are my 12 classic remakes that I hope to hear.
1. Chamelon
2. Killing My Old Man
3. For Annie
4. Road To Zion
5. Judas Kiss'
6. Run For The Prize
7. Blinded Eyes
8. Not By Sight
9. Beat The System
10.Voice In The Wind
11. Witch Hunt
12. It Is Finished

I'd be totally stoked by that tracklist if "Judas' Kiss" or "Voice in the Wind" was replaced by "Pied Piper."
In fact, if you replaced "Voice" with "Piper" it would give you three off NSD, three off MPTY, three off NOTW and three off BTS. Perfect!

I think it would be an interesting strategy (and possibly boost interest) if they let fans vote on the songs they wanted to hear redone and then take the top 10-12 vote getters.

This would be awesome.
They'd probably have to split it by album so as not to end up with a scenario where they're just redoing Beat the System or something (I don't know that this would actually happen, but it could). Put the remaining songs from each of the four albums into four polls, take the top three votegetters from each poll.
I still wish they'd take a crack at some of the WWT stuff, too. "Magic Mirror." "Magic Words." "I'm Thankful." Who's with me?

It would be awesome to see some WWT songs! They could even have Rob Frazier show up as a guest vocalist!

Aye. I would participate in this. All Petra really has to do is get 20 songs or so that they're into remaking, and then poll it down to the 12 or 14 that would fit on a record. That way, we get what we want (which is of utmost importance), and Petra doesn't get stuck doing a song they don't really like.
Or, finalize their 11, and have fans pick the 12th.

Trouble is what that could do to their recording schedule if they have to wait for polling. Also it takes away from the 'suspense' of a new album if everyone knows exactly what's on it. I love to speculate, but I'd prefer to be surprised. Not that I would have an issue lobbying for a specific song or two, but the whole track list? Seems too "made-to-order", IMHO.
Maybe it would boost interest, however - that's always useful.

OK, run the poll for a set period of time...fans have two, three weeks to vote, or whatever. Petra can decide the dates based on whatever they want, they're the band. Maybe fans can pick between two candidate songs, text their vote to PETRA, etc. Vote as often as you want. Standard texting rates apply. Maybe you have to be an email newsletter recipient to be able to vote. Maybe they run it on Facebook. I'm sure Petra's marketing machine is in the war room 24/7 to see how to keep people excited...right?
Maybe they reveal the main tracklist to build the hype, and keep the winning song a secret until release date...I don't know, there's any number of ways to do it. We're already speculating like mad knowing virtually nothing.

The Tragically Hip released a two disc compilation album called "Yer Favourites" with the track list selected entirely by fan voting. Of course, they didn't have to actually enter the studio to record this songs anew.
As for BTTR 2, I'll trust the boys to get it right. I'm sure they'll end up doing some songs that I would not have picked, and then surprising me by how well they've done them, and I'll go home happy.

Here's a suggestion for inclusion on BTTR 2:

Considering how that song came in being (essentially improvised on the spot by the band), could it really work as a studio track?
Personally, I'd love to hear a new version "Pied Piper" because of the kickin' guitar.

When I first heard "Pied Piper" in 1983 I loved it because it was a hard rock song, but for some reason I've come to dislike it for some reason, and think "Not By Sight" and "Blinded Eyes" are much better rockers. Overall I do feel that the NOTW album is the weakest out of the four full length albums done from 81-85.

I like the guitar strumming on Pied Piper, it's the only song with that strumming style on any Petra record.

That is one thing that has bothered me about it; It doesn't sound like Bob playing and I've often wonder if its really him. A few years back I emailed him about it and he never truly said he actually played the song; I can't remember his exact words but he kinda gave me a political type answer and he made me wonder even more.

Strange. Even more strange that he came up with enough words to sound political as his communication style is usually short and to the point.
