Captured in Time & Space Ultimate Edition (Homemade)

Post by BriGuyPEI » Tue Apr 05, 2011 8:43 pm

Tonight I finally completed a project I've been meaning to do for years. I combined the longest versions of each track from the CD, cassette and video versions of CIT&S and made a hybrid Ultimate Edition. It clocks in at 94 minutes, including a seven-minute version of Without Him We Can Do Nothing. I also blended the message from the cassette and video versions to make a 9:24 version of it.

It flows well, but you can tell the sudden quality differences between the CD vs cassette tracks, but I like it anyway. I tried my best to at least balance the volumes. When all versions were the same, I used the CD version for best quality. Just loaded it onto my iPod.

The non-CD tracks are as follows:
01 Intro (cassette)
09 Speak to the Sky (cassette)
10 John intros Hollow Eyes (cassette)
18 John's Solo (cassette)
20 The Race (cassette)
22 Louie's Solo (cassette)
23 God Gave Rock & Roll to You (cassette)
24 Let Everything That Hath Breath (video)
25 Without Him We Can Do Nothing (video)
26 Praise Ye the Lord (video)
27 Hallelujah Chorus (cassette)
28 Visions (cassette)
29 Godpleaser (cassette)
30 Greg's message (cassette/video)
31 The Great I AM (cassette)
32 Greg intros It Is Finished (cassette)

In the interests of serving people who already own CIT&S and wish to do the same thing, here is a link to the cassette/video mp3s. This does not contain the full album. The CD tracks are not included. Only the tracks taken from the cassette/video. That way it should only really be of use to those of you who already own the proper album. Warning: this zip file is 50MB.

If people feel that this should not be done I will remove it. At any rate, it will remove itself in one week.

Cool to hear this. I wonder why they didn't include more on the double LP version. Those LPs could not have been full.

They were. Well, you can pack more music on them, but you give up quality. The first half of vinyl records has more high-end frequencies. The more music you put on a record, the closer the grooves are together. The closer the grooves are, the leaner the tone you will have. Having tightly packed grooves decreases the stereo image, making it more mono. So, the mastering engineer has to arrange the music accordingly. Then they have to arrange the tunes so that they flow together.

Back in the day, there were also limits on songs per record for monetary/royalty purposes. Any songs after 10 per album were basically not paid for more or less. That is why people still hold to a 10 song album formula, even when a CD holds over 70 minutes of music.

The software I'm using creates them initially as wav files. When I convert them to 128kbps mp3 that's just the way it defaults.

I did that on purpose, so that the files would only be of use to someone who already owns the CD. If you have the CD, you can just copy the other tracks and merge them with these into one playlist.

This is probably the closest I'll ever get to my dream of seeing CITAS released as a remastered double CD special edition.

Hello. I know you have already reposted the download link, but can I as you to please post it one last time? I just joined the Petra Zone this week. I have considered pulling these sources together myself over the past few years, but just haven't had the time.

I was SO disappointed when I bought the CD version of CIT&S and found that it was missing so much from the cassette version!

God's Peace,

Ken B
