Re: Back to the rock live - out now on Amazon!
Can someone pass me some ketchup so that I may eat some crow? I just listened to the first few tracks of the live CD. I totally misunderstood when someone posted the "fade out." Yes, there are fades, but they are AFTER each song ends. I actually thought that the new Petra CD faded out the music. Another example of over reacting to a misunderstanding.

The songs on the live-CD are great...they really rock, they are powerful...but for a concert-recording it´s really a lame one. Nearly no live-atmosphere, nearly no speaking to the crowd...pitty for CITAS has shown, that they know how to do a great live recording. CITAS is one of the beste live recordings in christian rock in my eyes. And the fading an the end...no way...I really do hope that the DVD will improve, but I have my doubts...

In Germany it´s avaiable at Amazon.de. But I only found it searching the titel, not the band. So try "Classic Petra live"Matthew RJ wrote:still unavailablet outside the US.

Rexreed, all the songs have the real endings, except for too big to fail, is just a bit faded out the crowd noise, and they cut out a lot of testimonies and chatter

No...too big to fail is fading out while singing and playing...but I guess thats, what you meant.fcollazo wrote:Rexreed, all the songs have the real endings, except for too big to fail, is just a bit faded out the crowd noise, and they cut out a lot of testimonies and chatter

Is there a good reason to fade out the last song on a live album? I'm sure there are plenty of reasons, but any good ones? It kind of ruins the whole live feeling. Almost like watching Superman, but turning off the TV right before he spins the world backwards. Or Star Wars, aftter Luke blows up the Death Star and lands at the rebel base, but before the awards ceremony.

For there to be fades and edits, there must have been a reason. I have not heard it all, just samples on Amazon. There are Journey live in Houston and live greatest hits albums and a Bon Jovi board mix live album that has lots of fades and edits. It does dampen the vibe.

It happens over and over again, that Live Albums fade every song out. I can´t imagine why bands do that. It ruins the live-feeling. The only purpose I could think of is bringen as much as possible to one CD. But there is plenty of room on this live-album...

Personally, I'm not all that excited about the live album. For starters, it's the exact same song list as the studio CD. One of my reasons for buying live discs is to hear a different grouping of songs. I'm a more than a little disappointed they aren't playing any of their other songs.
At the very least I expect to hear a little banter in between the songs, which doesn't sound like the case here. If it's basically the studio album with crowd noises, I'll pass and wait for the DVD (hopefully it comes out). If the DVD is really good, and I just can't live without the music on my iPod, I can either buy the download then, or I can always hook my DVD player up to my digital 8-track and record the audio track.
Also, for whatever reason, I mostly prefer to listen to studio recordings. A couple of years ago I bought a Rush and Journey DVD that both came with CDs of the live show...and while I put them both on my iPod, I've only listened to them once or twice!
One exception to that is Bruce Cockburn...he often totally reworks a couple songs when he plays live, making the live recordings pretty interesting!

The reasons I can think of is that they hope to sell many single tunes, or if you have the songs among all the studio tracks in your mega Petra playlist on shuffle play this will maybe sound better.DeSoto wrote:It happens over and over again, that Live Albums fade every song out. Am I crazy? Or do the live songs themselves sound better than the studio record. Guitar sound crisp and clean not smashed and compressed. Might just buy the live cd instead of the studio cd.

I'm no fool. I understand that there are dits and fades in live albums. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND why anyone would fade the music out on the last rack of a live album. That is not the same as fading out the crowd between tracks 2 and 3, we're talking about the finale. Not just the crowd, but the song never actually ends, it just fades out. No "thank you Nashville", nothing. The live Journey CD from 81 is pretty cool. They had extended versions of songs as well as tunes from prior albums. They did not fade out the music.
