Re: Missteps
I will say this as someone who was 13 when No Doubt came out: It looked like a cool album (well, tape, truth be told) to me, and it's the album that got me into Petra. It's certainly better than Wake Up Call, Double Take, God Fixation and Revival, at least to my tastes.
It was 1995. Grunge was cool. So the album art was grungier. I don't have any problems with that.

I also love No Doubt, but It does sound more like a John Schlitt album than a Petra album. Also, the only reason the earlier albums sound dated is cause of the keyboards. Keyboards were an 80's thing and today very few (if any) bands use keyboards. If Petra re-recorded those albums without keyboards and everything else was the same, the albums would sell today just as well as they did back then. I love all the albums from back then, but the keyboards do take away some of the edge those songs had in respect to guitar and drums. Thats my opinion anyways.

Re: Missteps
The green picture has David Lichens in it instead of Bob Hartman. Bob played all guitars on the album. They just wanted to put the new guy on the cover. They should have put Bob on there instead.p-freak wrote:Why? What's wrong with the nice green picture?

The new guy sucked. But....then again, any new guy would have sucked in my opinion. Petra was not Petra without Bob. Sorry Lichens.

Re: Missteps
It seems the general consensus is that the cover of No Doubt is the biggest misstep Petra ever made...
I personally think the cover of Double Take is worse, but only slightly.

Re: Missteps
Double Take = MIS-STEP OF ALL TIME! The melodies were terrible for the most part. But then again, I give Petra a pass because that was not a real Petra record.

Re: Missteps
Double Take was supposed to be a live recording, according to the contract they had with Word. Word begged them to please let it be something else and then we got Double Take. So if given the choice between a live recording of the revolving door of 1999 and Double Take, I would definitely go for DT. So it could have been much, much worse.

Re: Missteps
I saw Petra on the Double Take tour in 2000, and they were still very good on stage. I think I'd have preferred the live recording. Couldn't have been worse (production wise, anyway) than Farewell.

Re: Missteps
I love live albums and actually in the DVD age live albums have been big sellers. I've often wondered why they didn't just put out an album of all new material?
