I am right in there with you fcollazo. I've always believed the Jekyll & Hyde sound was something Petra should have been able to build off of. I really hope that's the direction he goes rather than to relive the 70's.

WOW! I got a wild hair yesterday and put the link and info on an REO Speedwagon message board because when I used to hang with the REO folks online there were a dozen or so hard core Petra fans as well. Since I had not been to the site in a cojuple of years, I didn't know if any of them were still there either. Maybe a few were!

Very cool.

Calico, maybe your 'hair-brained' idea worked, because we sure saw a LOT of action on Thursday!

We'll be putting out a press release today, along with a newsletter, so maybe that will push things a little more.

All I can say is THANK YOU to everyone who pledged - the TGC Crew is going to get an EXCLUSIVE ring-side seat during the whole recording process and beyond, including photos, vids & blogs as the project moves along. You're a part of John's team now - and he feels very strongly about that.

Someone over at the Christian Metal Realm said they would like to see John do a reworked version of Never Been Any Reason on the new album, so I posted a link to the You Tube video where he did just that.

That YouTube video wasn't anything that John wrote or endorsed or anything.... it was the church who had always performed it with different lyrics, and they made John do it with them! lol!

Please make that fact known on the chat board, OK?

Here's the latest message from John that will be going out later today:

As we speak, all I can say is WOW! I just went through an amazing evening of seeing a goal that a lot of people told me we woulnd’t hit - well, we HIT IT, we went OVER, - and the momentum is still happening! I’m excited!

It’s like getting a record deal that’s every musician’s dream, but this time the record deal is from a bunch of friends that believe in me. I thank you guys – I’ll do my best not to disappoint you! I feel like I’m no longer the loner that I’ve been for so long. I have a team that’s going with me!

One of the team members posted a comment on Kickstarter that said “I’m so blessed to be part of your ministry.” And at the end she added “OUR ministry.” Yes! That’s exactly right!

Let’s go for it! Praise God – He has a plan! Isn’t it wonderful?!

I never heard the original before today. Now I have heard both and I must admit I liked this new version. IMO John should consider getting with these folks and making this part of the new CD.

Does John feel bad or ashamed of having done that? I think it was pretty cool myself. That's a very good song that just needed better lyrics and that's what they did. Nothing wrong with that. Heck, that's how we got God Gave Rock and Roll to You.

I forget where I read it, but John has said before that he regards his work before his salvation as part of his 'old life', and he's not interested in bringing any of it back. I understand why some would like to hear those songs reworked with Christian lyrics et al, but in John's (paraphrased) words, that would be, in his mind, looking back after putting his hand to the plow. Personally, I really respect that position. Some things are best left buried. We only hear the music, but none of us know the kinds of memories, some good, many bad, that that music brings back to John, or anyone with a history in secular music (and 'secular life', really).
