Classic Petra News
Re: Classic Petra News
Well, that is what they are doing to these songs, energizing them. It's almost funny to play the old versions of these songs now. I almost can't listen to them.

Uhm... Rex, you're sort of doing the same thing as you accuse Boray of doing. The fact that he (and I) never heard of 38 Special doesn't mean that we don't care about folks outside of our circle of knowledge. That is preposterous. It sounds like 38 Special is a very American phenomenon and since Boray is from Sweden and I am from the Netherlands it is not surprising that I (we) have never heard of them. I bet there's loads of stuff in our circle of knowledge that a well-educated well-thinking American would not know about and we are not holding that against you. Maybe your remark wasn't meant like this, but it definitely seemed like it. So please, don't make this another "My circle of knowledge is perfect and if you're not in on it your lacking in intelligence."rexreed wrote:Oh boy, here we go again. Please don't make this another Mutt Lang and "I don't care about folks outside of my circle of knowledge." I hate wiki but at least it gives you an idea.
Enjoy!

Re: Classic Petra News
Please stand down for just a second. The "why should I care about an artist that isn't from my country?" question did not originate from me. On music forums such as The Petra Zone we read and make a lot of references to other artists in relation to Petra. I just don't see the point in always asking "who?" or "what?" about a subject and then getting really defensive about NOT knowing the reference. I just posted a link to explain 38 special. The way in which the post was worded may have seemed like a nasty jab, but that was not the intent.

Well, I actually thought you meant they screamed "38 special" somewhere in the song or something, hidden in a fade out or something and wanted to know more about this.rexreed wrote:Please stand down for just a second. Yes, there are people from many different parts of the world on this forum and patience and grace is always warranted when people use phrases that do not translate well to other languages. "Stand down" would confuse most people who aren't native English speakers, for example. (Actually, that confuses many Anglophones as well.)
I like .38 Special and I own one of their albums. Being from Canada, I can definitely say that they are mainly popular in the USA and few other places. When I visit the USA, I hear .38 Special on the radio. However, in Canada it's quite rare to still hear them.
