Hand On My Heart

Post by LexingtonPethead » Fri Apr 29, 2005 7:02 pm

I just listened to Hand On My Heart for the first time in years. I'd forgotten how syruppy and sappy this song is. It sounds like something Aaron Neville would sing, but John does a great job with it!

I've been listening to Unseen Power and really like it. It's a breakaway from previous CDs like Beyond Belief, but it's really a great CD. :D

i was thinking more Smokey Robinson on that one...I like the power ballads on that one...*Lighter in the air for "I Need To Hear From You."*

what`s syruppi and sappy?????? if you are insulting me then....YOU are the sappy one!!!!  j/k

The video that ALWAYS *hit* me is the Wake up call one. That`s the first one I saw and heard about petra and ALWAYS brings me memories of how much I prayed to meet the band and all tat ya know, specially the song and video of "I need to hear from you".

Or the video of the song "beyond belief", where this guy gets a ride with Louie and Ronny fills the gas and John lawry is the police man and John Schlitt gives him directions. I remember I used to think: wow, wouldn`t that be cool?" lol, and well, so far I had that experience with John and man, God really took me serious when I said I wanted that something "beyond belief" would happen :)

Aw, they were so cute when they did that song in concert. Does it surprise anyone that I would think that?

I wouldn't be surprised if John was crooning and rolling googly eyes back and forth. I can hardly believe Petra did this song and that John sang it.

It's been awhile since I've seen them do "Hand On My Heart" in concert but they introduced the song by saying it was by "Johnny and the Heartbreakers" and they put on sequined jackets and gloves. I got a kick out of it. The guys in the audience were probably gagging, :P but the girls liked it. 8)

Syrupy and sappy means the same as mushy or sentimental Elo.

Yeah, I remember that whole get up as well. I was always glad when they got that song out the way. I'd probably appreciate it more these days though. I really liked the Unseen Power album/tour. Awesome era for the band.

Yeah, I think the ladies tended to like it more than the guys...Guys aren't usually into that mushy stuff. LOL.

John still has the outfit! Krey wore it for Halloween one year....

Does anyone have a pix of this in concert? I REALLY want to see it and post it.

I'll look and see if I happen to have one...Most of my concert pictures didn't turn out real clear, but I'll see what I have.

Snicker. John still has it huh? Hahahahahaha. :) 8)

Until I see a photo, all I have is my imagination, and I'm sick of using that.

"Syruppy and sappy" - just think Stryper's ballads. Despite how undeniably "cheesy" they are, I'm still a "sucker" for those songs because of how emotional they are.

(Whoa, I just used four slang terms in two sentences!)

You guys heard "Breathe a Sigh" from Def Leppard's Slang album? Now that's what I call big-time sappy!
