John Lawry 1997 solo album on iTunes

Post by stsmedia » Sun Aug 07, 2011 8:46 pm

For anyone interested...I just discovered John Lawry's little known 1997 solo album "Excursions" on iTunes for $4.95. Very cool effort and well worth the purchase price.

Cool find- I use a different digital store but they had it too- for $2.50.

Found 5 songs on Spotify. Does the album only include 5 songs?

Yes, just the five tracks. Here they are in order, with running lengths:

1. Excursions(4:02)
2. Water of Life (3:28)
3. Messiah(6:12)
4. Busy Signal (5:21)
5. Excursions, Part 2 (3:21)

Its an instrumental album. Short, but sweet. I personally like it better than his "Media Alert" solo effort.

The original album was released in 1997 in a limited release of only 1,000 hand-numbered copies. The CD actually was 'The World's First Audio Phone Card'.

Nice to know that it's now available for download.

Are these his only two albums? For the type of album it was Media Alert was a pretty good effort.

If they have it, emusic nearly always comes in cheaper than itunes.

Yes, these are his only two solo albums. But there are loads of albums that have his signature all over. Here's an overview of all the albums with keyboards and/or songwriting by John Lawry:

Undoubtedly there's many more, but this is all I've been able to find out for now. I haven't included all his producing and engineering work, because there's just too much of that around.

A good effort, yes, but it proved in a way that was somewhat painful to listen to that Lawry didn't have the chops to be a lead singer.

He's not that bad. I've heard many lead singers sing worse.

I really love Media Alert... granted, the vocals are not the best, but the rest of the album is really, really nice for the time period.

I would like to get hold of one of these original ones if anyone wants to sell.

I always thought his voice sounded pretty good, for what it was it was a good album.
