Head east cd's

Post by andreasbjerre » Fri Aug 19, 2011 3:24 am

Hey guys!

Have just been listening to some head east lately on youtube and grooveshark. I have listened to the albums flat as a pancake, get yourself up, head east and getting lucky.I really love it, except the get yourself up album which I don't like a lot. Does anybody know about the "a different kind of crazy" album? Thought of buying that, but does anyone know how it is compared to the others?

You can read about each album on this page:
http://www.head-east.com/disc.html

Course that doesn't tell you a whole lot, but there are some samples to hear.

Since I grew up in the '70s, this style is right up my alley!

You were alive in the 70s but you didn't REALLY grow up did you? :)

Uhhhhhh...........according to this promo, Roger Boyd says they have a song coming out that both Darren Walker (A John sound-alike) and John will be singing on? Listened to it twice and that is definitely what he is saying.

SUE? Is he referring to a live recording of the concert we're talking about or will John be on a new studio recording?

Thanks sue d. Well, you don't have to grow up in the 70s to love that kind of music. I grew up in the 90s/00s, but I listen to a LOT of 70s bands like blue oyster cult, led zeppelin and now head east! But i guess I'm a little weird :)

Not really! I grew up around the same time, and to this day my favorite stuff remains anything from the 70's/80's/ early 90's.

"Pethead" is not a title. It's a way of life.

Exe -- now you're showing my age! I'm the only one allowed to do that! lol

Bform - I'm sure you saw the reply to your question on another thread:
John is not recording any new material with Head East. I've talked about this very thing with the webmaster of www.head-east.com

There is simply an old Head East song recorded by the classic lineup (written by Roger Boyd) that didnt make it to an album. So they wanted to include it as a bonus on their upcoming album (it may indeed help with sales). Their is talk that they will have Darren (new lead singer) add some vocals to it as well.

But again - John is not recording new material with Head East - I understand the confusion though.

Hey andreasbjerre,

Thats funny about Get Yourself Up being your least favorite - that one is usually the fan favorite - and its probably mine too. Its never been remastered and officially released to CD so the quality doesnt stand up to the other releases, but I just love the songs and I feel the bands musicianship was great - very raw. My favorites included Seperate Ways, This Womans In Love, Monkey Shine, Jailer, and Trouble - listen to it some more - it might grow on you :)

As for A Different Kind of Crazy - its a great album and sounds great. Favorites off that one are - Feelin' is Right (penned by John), If You Knew Me Better (actually a minor hit in the U.K.), and Too Late. I believe If You Knew Me Better is on youtube.

If you could only have one Head East album I believe it should be Head East Live! - Thats where these guys really shined. Unfortunately, its never been released on CD in its entirety.

Roger says: "We have a song comin' out where we're gonna have both of them featured on it." and that is exactly right. Like I said - its a bonus track for a new Head East CD.. But John sang his vocals on this song already - 32 years ago. My guess is that including a never before heard song from the classic line up will help with sales.. and I bet they're right.

I just thought the Getting lucky album has much more soul and rocks harder than Get yourself up. Schlitts vocals in especially Every little bit of my heart and Sands of times are so insanely cool!

Those two have always been favorites of mine from that album - this is the first time that we hear John with that kind of edgy growling tone that he ended becoming known for - Thats why I love the Live album, he added some real character to those old Flat as a Pancake and Get Yourself Up songs. Listen to Never Been Any Reason, Love me Tonight, and When I Get Ready from the Live album and compare them to the studio versions - you'll see what I mean.

Yeah it sure is - and penned by John! The "Arrows" album has some of the best Head East songs on it I think... Open Up the Door (a friend of mine heard and said is this Head East or Petra?) Man I Wanna Be, Since You've Been Gone, Get Up and Enjoy Yourself (a John song also), Dance Away Lover, Elijah... lots of good vocal harmonies all over this album - and the coolest thing is the band could reproduce them live very well.

I'm really looking fwd to hearing how the CURRENT HE lineup sounds over in Iowa at the Hall of Fame Induction.... wonder if they'll play any John-era tunes?

I hope not.... they just wouldn't sound right with a different lead singer.
