Re: John Schlitt onstage with Head East?

I know this can be hard to understand, but I've been a Christian since 1980. When I was first saved, and for many years afterwards, I didn't want anything to do with the music I used to listen to, people I used to associate with, etc., etc. However, as I've matured I started seeing that my heart was the issue all along; not music, people, places, etc. My immaturity actually cut me off from ministry opportunities.petraman wrote:He wouldn't sign my Head East album because he didn't wanna relive those days now he is gonna sing those songs onstage, I don't know?
This is a great opportunity for John to draw attention to TGC. Remember, the New Testament gives strong warnings about associating with professing Christians that are living unrepentant immoral lives or teaching heresy. We're not told to avoid associations with the world. I'm convinced John could do this in a way that brings honor to God and the gospel. Pray that he has the wisdom and courage to do just that.

Wow, $50!?!? I just checked their web store and they're selling the DVDs from previous years for only $25 and then $13 for a CD. Why is this one going to be so expensive?sue d. wrote:RECORDING:
They (Hall of Fame) will be recording this professionally, both video and audio directly tied in to the board. DVDs will be for sale to anyone, at $50
each in about a month after the event.

You will probably get that price later but it will be new for that amount, I suppose.p-freak wrote:Wow, $50!?!? I just checked their web store and they're selling the DVDs from previous years for only $25 and then $13 for a CD. Why is this one going to be so expensive?sue d. wrote:RECORDING:

As of right now John Schlitt, Roger Boyd (keys), and Steve Huston (original drummer & vocalist - first vocal on NBAR) are confirmed to be performing. I guess Michael Somerville (original guitarist - and writer of NBAR) hasnt responded to the invitation yet.. Reallyyy hoping he will come out - he's very vital to the classic Head East sound in my opinion - very unique rock\blues\jazz type player. It would be a shame to have John and everyone there and not him.brent wrote:'bout time. Who else is coming back? Now they are worth seeing.
But no matter what this will be great - Roger's brother Larry Boyd is coming up to play bass (he is the "original" bassist and was actually set to record Pancake but decided just weeks before the recording that he wasnt interested in the rock star life style)
You gonna make the trip Brent?

I think we're on John's side here--And he didn't initiate this, he was asked to be there. The Bible doesn't tell us we have to totally ignore our pasts or pretend stuff didn't happen or not to have contact with unbelievers. We're told not to continue behaving the way we did before we accepted Christ and to be an example for unbelievers. This will be a good opportunity for John to talk about what God has done in his life I think.

Matthew, I hope you're not suggesting that all criticism of John is the equivalent of spewing hatred. I like this move and hope it does give him an opportunity to be a witness. The contrast between doing "white lines" and living for the glory of God is clear cut.
However, I have been very concerned about John's involvement with the Schullers and TBN because we are told clear as a bell in the NT to not be in fellowship with people who profess Christ and teach heresies. And yes, appearing on their shows and sitting on panels with them talking as though everyone is in agreement.....does have the appearance of being united and in fellowship with them.
John is not alone. Many ministers of the gospel that I believe are for real have appeared on these platforms. Though I don't agree with their decision to do so, I still support their ministries.

Re: John Schlitt onstage with Head East?
Well heck, John cannot deny his past. His past paved the way for his need for God and the road he would follow God on with Petra. John's lifestyle has been free of the craziness often found in other secular stars turned Christian. John never boasted and celebrated his sins for cash the way that others have on TBN for example. It is almost like "the bigger the sinner, the more sensational the story is and the greater of a work it was". We are all sensational stories and I for one have appreciated how John has always pushed God, God's Grace, Love and Forgiveness in ministry and music. I didn't appreciate who and what God is until I needed what he has to offer for myself. John's life and testimony demonstrates that to me, and that is why it resonates with me.
I don't have to worry about him singing secular music, because I have heard his convictions and seen him too many times to know he has not changed or been changed to do what others want. He is a bull headed dude. If people cannot see that this will be one of the biggest evangelistic tools to reach people from John's past, then they are blind. These guys remember John as he was, and now get to see him as he is, remaining true to God since his conversion. Longevity, dedication, life-changing love, grace and forgiveness may be something these guys are meant to see from someone they could not stand to be around because he was out of control and on his way to hell. Maybe they will have a come to Jesus moment.
