Re: Favorite Praise song covered by Petra.
My favorite praise song that Petra covered is "I Love You, Lord," off of PP2. That being said I do not particularly care for their version- that's just my favorite one that they covered. I really don't care much for praise music. My favorite Petra praise song is "We Exalt Thee." I just wish it did not fade out because I absolutely detest fade outs.

For a while in the mid to late 90's Petra was finishing up their concerts with "I Stand in Awe". I wish they would have put that on PP2. BTW even though I'm a hard rocker at heart my favorite Praise album is PP2 and is also in my top 10 for favorite Petra albums.

It's funny that you mention I Stand In Awe Of You. In Europe it is hardly known, so when I first saw a video of Petra doing this song, I didn't even know the song. I don't know if they've ever played it in Europe - it wouldn't work here. Lonnie Chapin used to do the vocals for that song. In general I don't really like this song and certainly not at the end of a concert. I'd rather have a big rocker as finisher than something mellow.

They finished their set on the No Doubt UK tour with "I stand in awe". David Lichens led it. I thought it was a perfect and humble end to the concert. They finished their main set with a big rocker, people all cheered for more, they came back, did a couple of rocky encores then I stand in awe of you. They all left the stage after leading the audience into a final round of the chorus, leaving everyone focused on God, not the band. Everyone (myself included) seemed familiar with the song.

Hah, I actually have bootleg recordings of those shows, so I should've known. I even sent them to you, right, Ian?
Maybe it's then just that in the Netherlands it's not a well-known song. Usually we sing lots of songs in English, but this is definitely not one of them and I don't know if there even is a translation of it.
You're right about the focus at the end. I can imagine it would work like that. I've been to some shows where they finished with Show Your Power. I can see why they would want to end with Stand In Awe or Show Your Power but it's not my cup of tea (to stay in UK spheres).

Re: Favorite Praise song covered by Petra.
I think the original questions was about songs covered by Petra. For me that would also have to be Send Revival, with Let Our Voices Rise Like Incense as a close second. Oasis also is a great song.
If we're talking about originals, then Lovely Lord and Song Of Moses rank very high.
I still haven't been able to listen to the II Guys album for more than a couple of times. I like the Petra-ish treatment, but I'm not really happy with the song selection. Most of the songs had already been famous for so long that I was getting tired of them.
Does anyone know the song It Is You from Newsboys - Thrive? Peter Furler said in an interview somewhere (sorry, no reference...) that he originally wrote the song for Petra's Revival album, but his wife told him that the song was too good to have someone else record it. Then he decided to save it for the next Newsboys album.
