You can hit all the notes like Greg did, but there was no soul in it; that is a song you go by on feel.Boray wrote:Greg is singing some unbelievably high notes in that song.

Yeah, I doubt anyone could do it as well as Steven Tyler. BTW, I saw a YouTube of him doing Lean on Me with a choir. It was great!! Cool to see him doing gospel-style.executioner wrote:That's a classic that should never be remade by anyone and I mean anyone.Preacherman777 wrote:Wow. Couldn't disagree more. His version of Dream On was really poor and the song lost all its vibe and luster.

Greg doesn't scream and dance like an anorexic horse grandma in need of a hip replacement, or spout off crazy ramblings to girls young enough to be his grand daughter....He can kick Tylers butt.

Re: Best Greg Volz Solo Songs
I must admit that Tyler has dealt with his changes and has applied them to Aerosmiths music. If you listen to the original version of Dream On and then listen to something like Dude Looks Like A Lady, you can hear it. As his voice has changed, he has changed his delivery and style. John is like Tyler in a sense. Greg is much closer to sounding as he used to sound, when he is feeling well and his voice is not fatigued. When John is on, feeling well, rested, not stressed, he can blow your mind. I have heard John punch some notes that made me laugh out loud they were so good.

You can hit all the notes(like Greg did) and still have no feel or soul in it(like Greg did). The soul of that song was completely lost on that version.brent wrote:Greg doesn't scream and dance like an anorexic horse grandma in need of a hip replacement, or spout off crazy ramblings to girls young enough to be his grand daughter....He can kick Tylers butt.

Exactly. I think we talked about this in another thread....it was like David Phelps doing "I want to know what love is." He has an amazing voice, but he had nowhere near the passion and feeling for that song that Lou Gramm had.

For me this is the reason Greg has never done it for me; I just don't feel the Passion that a song like that needs.Jan wrote:executioner wrote:You can hit all the notes(like Greg did) and still have no feel or soul in it(like Greg did). Re: Best Greg Volz Solo Songs
What is the point of remaking that song?
Why is he wanting to Dream On until the good Lord takes you away?
I'd rather live my life with my eyes open with faith in God and living every day bringing glory to God.
Remaking a song by one of the biggest rockers and heaviest partiers of all time.
I just don't see the point.
But I also am not big on Phil Keaggy singing Here Comes The Sun (or is it Son).
Those songs are part of my old sinful self that I'd rather forget than relive.

Re: Best Greg Volz Solo Songs
All Greg did was improve the song. He sang it better, which would make sense since he's a far better singer.

Re: Best Greg Volz Solo Songs
IMO, the problem wasn't Greg in that song. Greg is a better singer than Tyler and sang the notes, lights out. The problem is this: that version of the song is a late 80's, cheesy rendition of a classic song and it sounds very silly/80'sish/corny/karaoke now compared to the original. Back then, when it was released, it probably sounded really good. But time has not been good to it and it has not had any lasting power except for the most die-hard of fans. I played it for my brother who really loved Greg when he sang for Petra and he laughed at it and thought it was crap, and that was several years ago. I love Greg but as it is now, it would have been better if he sang the original tune with a better sounding update of it, kind of what they did with the latest Classic Petra album, instead of turning it into that kind of a song where it was dated almost immediately.

Exactly!! Plus just no soul or vibe feel to it; it was cheese in 1988 and a classic was completely ruined.pmal wrote:IMO, the problem wasn't Greg in that song.
