Wow never seen that list! I didn't know he had so many awards.. humble guy he should use them in marketing!BForm wrote:Yeah, this argument totally dismisses the part Bob and Louie played in the success of the band. Which is totally understandable when you consider the massive amount of awards John won for his solo records. Just look at them all!

If you mean it's not a good point, sure it is. Awards in the big scheme of things are not a big deal and it's ridiculous to argue about who is better than who.

Re: Classic Petra signs with H2O?
I understand what people are saying about how the band has been marketed, but every bit of the success that Petra had was a building process. Greg Volz era Petra put Petra on the map and opened up doors that allowed John Schlitt era Petra to become what it did. However, that is minor compared to the fact that there are still three guys in this band who were there for Petra's biggest wave of success, save for the Grammy and I'm sorry, but everyone knows that was a cheap Grammy (they won it for their worst album) so I wouldn't get too fired up about that. Fact is, the majority of this band was there for at least some of Petra's most successful albums and tours, both pre Schlitt and with Schlitt, so they have the right to be recognized for that and Bob was there for all of it. The main point I'm making is that I think people are making this too much about Greg. It's not all about Greg and even so, it's not like Greg didn't play a major role in the success of Petra.

Yeah, I'm just not getting why people can't see the importance of the foundation that was laid before John. And if you want to talk about apples and bananas, that about describes the difference in the market for Christian rock between the two eras. The ever increasing support from churches that once condemned them and the endorsement of people like Josh McDowell and James Dobson were huge boosts to the commercial success of the Schlitt era. It took awhile to build those bridges, and it started before John arrived.
I also don't understand how you can blame Volz era Petra for not winning awards that didn't even exist yet. The fact that the Grammy's and GMA were adding/redefining awards shows that there were tremendous market changes taking place. Volz era Petra was a huge commercial success, especially considering the size of the market they were working with.
Finally, has anyone considered how long it took AFTER John arrived for Petra to start winning those new awards?

Petra won 4 Grammy's. You probably are only thinking of the one for Double Take. They also won for Beyond Belief, Unseen Power, and Wake Up Call.Preacherman777 wrote:I understand what people are saying about how the band has been marketed, but every bit of the success that Petra had was a building process. The award didn't exist until 1991, so it's likely that Petra would have won more, both in the Schlitt and Volz eras had it been around.
The point, to me, is this: Classic Petra is Petra. Farewell Petra is Petra. I have always loved both eras because I love the band's heart. As others have stated, the name Classic Petra was chosen for legal reasons, but I still just call them Petra, and as the artwork on the album suggests, that's what they were expecting, since the Classic part is small and etched into the giant Petra logo.

Re: Classic Petra signs with H2O?
You know, I was going back and looking at this and it occurred to me that the statement released to the public does not say that Classic Petra won all those awards and had all those accomplishments.
Please note it's talking about the accomplishments of Petra, not specifically Classic Petra. Now Sue says that she had a different mailing that says it differently, apparently making it sound like Classic Petra has done all of this, but I don't know that anyone but her has actually seen that one, so it's seems to me that we have argued about something that most of us haven't even seen. Therefore, if Sue still has said email, it would be nice if she would post it so we could all see just what it is that we have been arguing about, because the pubic statement posted on this thread does not in fact do what has been claimed.“H2O Artist Agency is proud to announce the signing of CLASSIC PETRA for worldwide representation effective immediately. As the pioneers of the Christian rock and contemporary Christian music genres, Petra paved the way with their arena rock sound that revolutionized Christian music beginning in the early 80s. Over their illustrious career spanning now five decades, Petra has released 24 albums, selling nearly 10 million copies. With four Grammys and 10 Dove Awards, inductions into both the Hard Rock Café and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, they have had more #1 radio hits than the stars, and have now reunited the original lineup of Greg Volz, Bob Hartman, Mark Kelly, John Lawry, and Louie Weaver to bring their classic rock sound to people all around the world with a message of hope and healing. Great for churches, fairs, festivals, schools, and theatres. Call today to bring this show in to your community as soon as this fall.”

Ok put it this way; it doesn't come right out and say it, but to the average fan(not u and me) it sounds like the CP version is responsible for the awards and to the average fan that is what they will believe. At the very least its purposely misleading the consumer and could be made to look like a lie.

Re: Classic Petra signs with H2O?
I posted this in another thread, but that thread was deleted:
It is perfectly fine for the awards, accomplishments and music of "Petra" to be used by "Petra", as long as some of those members overlap. Bob, Louie and John Lawry overlap, are part of multiple versions of Petra. Since those guys were there, they get the bragging rights. There is no lying going on here. It would be a lie if none of these members were present when the awards were won, and they were just using the name on those awards, like many bands throughout secular and Christian music have done. The funniest was Jason Morales' version of The Imperials. None of those kids had a thing to do with the music and performances that won awards. It sure did look stupid to see young guys under 30 claiming a awards dating back to the late 60s. There is nothing wrong here. When Bob, John and Louie leave CP, so will the right to claim the awards and legacy. Until then....
It's pretty safe to say that buyers today know the history of the band, or are at least familiar with the Schlitt or Volz fronted bands. They already know this stuff. The booking agent page is not for fans. Fans do not go to booking agent pages to interact with the artists.

I can speak for the masses of Petra fans too. I say that the average Petra fan knows there have been MANY members of the band over the years, and they know how to read.
How many different times/ways are you going to try paint Classic Petra as liars? (go back and read the forums [assuming they have not been "cleaned"], it's a recurring theme...)
