It's posted on the CP blog for all the fans to see, so it was meant for fans to see.brent wrote:I posted this in another thread, but that thread was deleted:
It is perfectly fine for the awards, accomplishments and music of "Petra" to be used by "Petra", as long as some of those members overlap. Bob, Louie and John Lawry overlap, are part of multiple versions of Petra. Since those guys were there, they get the bragging rights. There is no lying going on here. It would be a lie if none of these members were present when the awards were won, and they were just using the name on those awards, like many bands throughout secular and Christian music have done. The funniest was Jason Morales' version of The Imperials. None of those kids had a thing to do with the music and performances that won awards. It sure did look stupid to see young guys under 30 claiming a awards dating back to the late 60s. There is nothing wrong here. When Bob, John and Louie leave CP, so will the right to claim the awards and legacy. Until then....
It's pretty safe to say that buyers today know the history of the band, or are at least familiar with the Schlitt or Volz fronted bands. They already know this stuff. The booking agent page is not for fans. Fans do not go to booking agent pages to interact with the artists.

Re: Classic Petra signs with H2O?
Was it a lie, for anything post Wake-Up Call, for Petra to have been referred to as a band that has been around for over 20 years when none of the touring members had been in the band that long? I'm not saying I think it was wrong, but maybe Petra was lying saying it was Petra based on the line of reasoning being used in this thread...

I just tell it like it is; at least you know where I stand, I'm not for all the political correct crap.adpetrafan wrote:No.executioner wrote:Ok put it this way; it doesn't come right out and say it, but to the average fan(not u and me) it sounds like the CP version is responsible for the awards and to the average fan that is what they will believe. At the very least its purposely misleading the consumer and could be made to look like a lie.
I can speak for the masses of Petra fans too. I say that the average Petra fan knows there have been MANY members of the band over the years, and they know how to read.
How many different times/ways are you going to try paint Classic Petra as liars? (go back and read the forums [assuming they have not been "cleaned"], it's a recurring theme...)
There's been so much stuff coming from them I'm not sure where to begin.
1. 40 date tour in 2010 that never got off the ground.
2. 3 Classic tunes albums
3. Sony distribution deal that actually never materialized
4. ANR- if you contact them like one promoter did and he was told they have never even heard of Classic Petra
5. On the CP blog throwing John under the bus and comparing to the new lead singer of Journey and making it look like John has played a minor short role in the band, and in the same paragraph saying Greg is the Steve Perry of Petra.

I believe the tour and the albums were plans, not promises. I'm not 100% positive about that, but pretty sure.

Wait, the Sony/BMI deal was for digital downloads. That was not a label deal with Sony printed on the discs. Two very different things. This distribution is very easy to get, when you sign up for some distribution and manufacturing services. It's an all-in deal.

I think you are right Superfly. Those were plans and not promises, but when someone is looking for something to condemn, anything will do. I wish we could all just be grateful to God for what we've been blessed with, I mean hey, we all pretty much thought Petra was over and then we got something more and maybe even more to come, so I'm going to choose to remain hopeful and supportive and not waste my time going on a witch hunt.

I actually don't have any problem with the text quoted from the CP website above. It makes it clear that Petra won x number of awards, and that a specific iteration of the band is getting back together. That's fair for everyone involved and accurate, to boot.

Well if this is the standard by which all things Petra should be measured I feel cheated by all the claims over the years that Petra was Petra with all the revolving doors moving like crazy. Ahh, and Greg to me is not only the Steve Perry of Petra but also the David Lee Roth uf you know what I mean and see rock history as its unfolding right now!

We also have to realize that Classic Petra is officially and legally a different band and entity from Petra, so the claim can and should be made that those awards are not theirs to claim. The awards were not given to the individual but to the band Petra not the band Classic Petra.

No way shape or form could Greg and Steve be comparable; you could compare Greg and DLR, but I wouldn't because DLR was/is a total joke.fcollazo wrote:Well if this is the standard by which all things Petra should be measured I feel cheated by all the claims over the years that Petra was Petra with all the revolving doors moving like crazy. Re: Classic Petra signs with H2O?
Again, there has been no evidence that Classic Petra has claimed those rewards in the first place, so until there is, it's a mute point regardless of whether they have the right to or not and as far as whether or not they have the right to mention it. well, I agree with what Brent said about that. I would think Petra fans would give them the benefit of the doubt rather than being quick to condemn them.

Re: Classic Petra signs with H2O?
As far as voice quality/style, I could picture Greg being in REO Speedwagon or even Air Supply, (don't shoot me)
but that is just my opinion, and it's not set in stone. I do think he has the kind of voice to do well with that style though. John and Steve Perry are a bit closer voice quality wise in my opinion.
They have different voices and styles that are right for their voices, it's probably not fair to compare as I believe Daniel pointed out.
And yes, before I am banned, I like Air Supply even though some of their stuff is over-the-top bubble-gum and sentimental.
So there.

Air Supply is great! Re: Classic Petra signs with H2O?
I can't really see a comparison between John and Steve Perry. Perry has much smoother vocals and a more dynamic range, which in that sense makes him more like Greg, but he's a bit more raspy than Greg, yet no where near as much as John. Honestly, I think it's hard to compare John to anyone. His voice is unique. Maybe closer to someone like Sammy Hagar, but even that's not quite right.
