Re: Classic Petra Web Site Updated
Here is another reason that the site is looking generic:
http://classicpetra.drupalgardens.com/
http://dpulse.drupalgardens.com/
http://gregxvolz.drupalgardens.com/
The site has been built using Drupal gardens hosting (shared hosting)
https://www.drupalgardens.com/pricing
I am just glade there is something up, and there is a plan!

Re: Classic Petra Web Site Updated
Hi all -There's a newbie among you!
Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated!
OK, on the site....we had an actual happy situation (new live dates for Classic Petra) of needing to be online whilst awaiting design requirements, assets and content - the true need was to be online. Now.
For anyone who's curious, here's is more info on why the choice of this particular platform:
http://bit.ly/Av0LPx
The objectives are to create an individual user-end experience, 'push' content across social services and deliver media content seamlessly...and to do those things while eliminating the use of Flash.
This is, in fact, being first implemented on a slice of an elastic cloud server to gauge actual bandwidth and server needs. The site can then be exported to an external server solution, if need be.
Now, you're not seeing anything close to an 'an individual user-end experience' right now, as we're awaiting and/or creating content. But, you will, quickly.
The best way you can help is to rattle our cage with what you'd like to see....join the site as a member and help build it from the user-level up, which is part of the choice of this platform.
To be able to go from 'blank' to something the band and management agree to while the design and content takes shape in roughly 16 hours is the wonder of cloud-based CMS.
OH - I am not just posting about this one topic. I've been trying to join the 'zone as a fan for ages!
Happy it was much simpler this time, and very glad to be here!

Welcome Dean,
Great to see you are getting things in order with the band media wise, and I know everyone here will appreciate you posting updates and so forth in the future. We have a few web developers here so if there is any questions or you would like our opinion we are really good at giving that

The thing I find most interesting is the liberal use of the "Jekyll & Hyde" font. This is true of the t-shirts as well. For all the effort of keeping "Petra" and "Classic Petra" as separate entities, it's odd that they're using a "Petra" font to promote "Classic Petra".

Not so odd- the last logo that Classic Petra used was a Petra logo as well, was it not?BriGuyPEI wrote:The thing I find most interesting is the liberal use of the "Jekyll & Hyde" font. Re: Classic Petra Web Site Updated
Well, since Bob owns Petra and is part of Classic Petra and since the two share a great deal of common history, I don't see any problem with Bob using anything from Petra he wants to. Personally, I would prefer to see the Classic Petra logo on there and hopefully it will be eventually, but I ain't gonna nitpick. For all the effort of keeping "Petra" and "Classic Petra" as separate entities, it's odd that they're using a "Petra" font to promote "Classic Petra".

Re: Classic Petra Web Site Updated
Let me remind you that the "Classic Petra" logo is also a "Petra" logo that was used even after John Schlitt joined in the 80s. The only thing that is "separate" about Classic Petra and Petra is the use of the name. Petra is Petra!!!! Bob is touring with the "Classic" lineup and doing shows with the semi-retired lineup. (I'm not going to call them the "Farewell" lineup. If the "Dream Team" lineup only includes from 1988-1994 and only consists of the five members, then the "Farewell" lineup was only the four guys that toured the Jekyll & Hyde and Farewell tour. So we need a new name to call the semi-retired lineup with Bob and John.)For all the effort of keeping "Petra" and "Classic Petra" as separate entities, it's odd that they're using a "Petra" font to promote "Classic Petra".

Re: Classic Petra Web Site Updated
I think its great that the site will be fan and user friendly, and its going to be fun to use, but my concern is first impressions. In any kind of business(yes I said business) the three most important things are 1. first impression 2. quality of work 3. content
I know they wanted to get the info up and out there ASAP, but isn't that what Facebook is for? They did get the content portion right, and we know about their quality of work(music side) but the quality of work on the site is low and out of date and I might say the first impression will be completely lost because of this.
The majority of people that might be just finding Petra again and haven't seen or heard anything from the band since the 90's and maybe even the 80's will be turned off by this. If you lose your first impression you've lost it all and that client(fan) most likely will never return. IMO the site should not be up until it is completely ready and looking the way the band deserves.

Didn't Petra change fonts and logos on practically every album?

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine losing interest in a band I'm interested in, just because their their website isn't super cool and cutting edge. When I go to a bands website, I'm just looking for information. The bells and whistles don't mean much to me.

It's clean, but in no way fancy. It does the job in a pinch. Now if they start posting pics of the current lineup in an airplane hanger or next to some wind turbines I might cry foul
