J/K.
Hi. I'm turning 40 on May 4th, so I guess that makes me the same age as Petra. Thinking about attending the bash in Indy on the 5th as that would be like y'all coming to my b/day party and bringing some cool musicians with you.
Been listening to Petra since 88 or 89. Can't call myself a Pethead - the only daft fanboy name I claim is Magnumaniac. Any other Magnum fans here? "Yeah I love(d) that show/gun/ice-cream/personal item/car" doesn't cut it. There is only one Magnum...
Um, was going to link to a video - but probably not the right thread or corner of the forum for non-Petra stuff so I'll cease and desist before I get shown the door in record time.
My first Petra album was On Fire! (given to me by the family I was living with while at college - they were concerned that I was listening to too much secular rock and wanted me to know that there was some Godly stuff out there. What was I listening to a lot that made them so proactively concerned? Pat Benatar's "Wide Awake In Dreamland"!! Anyway, I think I'll close the parenthesis now). On Fire! is still my favorite - it is just so horribly wonderful in an 80s cheese rock kinda way! Otherwise, I am very fond of Never Say Die and Washes Whiter Than. Favorite song? Well, Grave Robber, Angel of Light, or Counsel of the Holy I think.
Other bands of the Christian persuasion that I still listen to a great deal are:
Whitecross/heart
Guardian
Jerusalem
Bride
Idle Cure
Rez +related
Demon Hunter
Divinefire
The Choir +related
Common Children (Marc Byrd is an unsung genius)
Sixpence
Plumb
Caedmon's Call
Casting Crowns
Allies
Lost Dogs
Neal Morse
Adam Again
Joshua
Yeah - the list could go on for a long time!
As for musical 'heroes':
Phil 'God's Guitarist' Keaggy!
Kerry 'God's all round musical genius' Livgren!
Lanny 'I'm not sure what I believe anymore, but I still shred' Cordola!
John Lees
Woolly Wolstenholme RIP

Tony Clarkin
Andy Powell
and the entire Midnight Oil band!
Which leads me to my all time favorite 'secular' bands:
Magnum
Barclay James Harvest
Midnight Oil
Wishbone Ash
Kansas
U2
So that's the important stuff. Now the rest:

Saving the best 'til last though:
Sinner saved by grace through the finished work of Emmanuel, God With Us - Yeshua, my personal Savior and Lord!
WHAT was it blessed God,
Led Thee to give Thy Son,
To yield Thy well-beloved
For us by sin undone?
'Twas love unbounded led Thee thus
To give Thy well-beloved for us.
What led Thy Son, O God,
To leave Thy throne on high,
To shed His precious blood,
To suffer and to die?
'Twas love, unbounded love to us,
Led Him to die and suffer thus.
What moved Thee to impart
Thy Spirit from above,
Therewith to fill our heart
With heavenly peace and love?
'Twas love, unbounded love to us,
Moved Thee to give Thy Spirit thus.
What love to Thee we owe,
Our God, for all Thy grace!
Our hearts may well o'erflow
In everlasting praise:
Make us, O God, to praise Thee thus
For all Thy boundless love to us.
