Last night was one of those surreal experiences. I only found out about two weeks ago that Classic Petra would be playing our tiny little Hard Rock Cafe here in Memphis. For $15, of course I couldn't turn this down! The show was slated to start at 9pm, though the guys came out about ten minutes late. I may be overestimating, but there looked to be about 30 people total in the restaurant. My first Petra concert was an arena in Tampa for the This Means War Tour. There were over 8,000 people at that concert, and I certainly never envisioned I would one day see Petra in what amounts to a birthday party setting! It felt like I had my own private show.

The guys were all very professional, and if the size of the crowd bothered them, they didn't let it show. Greg made a comment as they came out that we were going to get "a full on show!" And then he said it was going to be loud. And boy was it! My ears are still ringing from the show.

The small crowd was enthusiastic, so I think that helped keep their spirits up. The set list was a bit shorter than usual, but I think that was intentional. After the show, all of the guys came back out and talked with whoever was left. I stayed around for about an hour afterwards and hung out with each member individually. Very cool.

I asked Louie if he had broken any sticks during the show and he said no. Then he said, "do you want a stick? I'll give you one." Then he reached into a bag and pulled out a signed drumstick and handed it to me. Nice! Mark gave me the night's set list that everybody then signed. All in all, I'm not sure this night will be recreated. I'm sure they will play small venues again, but I doubt they make another stop at the Memphis Hard Rock. But what a night it was!
