Re: Why?
This is the part of the reason I don't attend church any more. I have gotten so tired of fake worship leaders, the ones who went to college and have a dergree in music so now they have to show us what they can do.
I went to Church On The Move here in Tulsa about a year ago and vowed never to go back. The music was so loud my ears were ringing, I felt like ripping my seat open and stuffing cotten in my ears so I could hear better. It was nothing but a concert, smoky stage, flashing lights, everything but pyro. It had such a "look what I can do" feel to it it made me sick.
What has happened to the genuine worship leaders, those who really want to glorify God and not themselves?

I don't know why, but this topic made me think about this song. Please listen to it.

Re: Why?
No kiddin'? Church on the Move eh? Yeah, they have the show biz down. They have more money tied up in their two Midas mixing consoles at front-of-house, than most churches spend on salaries. It is all economy of scale. They are all about drawing in the youth and the young families. All of their teaching is structured that way. Between the services, the TV shows, bus ministries, the ranch with the largest privately owned train, they bring'em.shawnpfan2010 wrote:This is the part of the reason I don't attend church any more. Re: Why?
That was started by two guys, can't recall their names. I could have sworn they were from Grace Fellowship. Oh well, all the same. They both have ties to Rhema. We did a show at Grace once with Sheila Walsh, and FBN was showcasing their pilot. I think the band I worked for actually did some music for them, but I cannot remember exactly.

Not going to church is not the answer for you. God commands us not forsake fellowship with other believers; I know there are churches near you that you can get involved in that are close enough to what you believe and feel comfortable with.shawnpfan2010 wrote:This is the part of the reason I don't attend church any more. FORGIVE! FORGET! & LET GO!
Re: Why?
I am not endorsing quitting church because of a bad experience. We don't quit eating food because one or two restaurants suck and gave us crappy food or service. BUT, I feel that verse is a bit over used in re: church. Remember back when that verse was written, believers fellowshipped in homes, caves, wherever they could. You do not have to go to a church service to fellowship with believers. In fact, I propose that in some churches there is little fellowshipping going on, people get lost in the crowd, and they feel comfortable that way. Some churches are not real churches. The kicker here is that church is not something you will agree with 100% of the time. You may not like major elements of the service. But, if the fruit is good, and you are being fed while given a chance to minister to others, you may have to suck it up on some things and let them be. However, Church On The Move is a Word of Faith, Charismatic, church. They do many things well. Some of what they teach is just plain wrong. They should be avoided IMO.

I'm sorry quitting church because we found a few bad apples in unacceptable as a Christian and is just an excuse; Do it this way look at it through God's point of view and see what you come up with.brent wrote:I am not endorsing quitting church because of a bad experience. My family and I go to a large Baptist church and its nice for us; We get fed the Word through SS, Bible Studies, and worship. I will admit that you can easily get lost in the crowd there and too be honest we probably know about 10% of the people that attend, but the 10% we know through the avenues are great. We do alot of things outside the official church capacity that brings good fellowship among believers. In Shawn's case maybe a small corner neighborhood church would be his best case bet to find the Word and fellowship that he needs.

Re: Why?
Right. We shouldn't quit church because of how the majority of the popular churches operate. Tulsa has a church on almost every corner. There are plenty to choose from. I would suggest The Church at Battlecreek as a good starting point. Doctrinally they are conservative. Alex is a great pastor and he has some great support staff. Alex has a unique testimony. You should check him out.
