Petra 1982 Without Him Live in Camouflage
Extended version. Heard but hadn't seen this one before ... sorry if a repost. They seem to have been having quite a good time then.

The videos from that era are really funny; even the secular artists were laughable, but the music is good...

I saw this tour. Man, John Slick was THE man. A real blues organ player. He is a smart dude too. Ha, Bob was getting some air back then too. Go Bob.

Thank you so much! This is how I remember Petra! May seem goofy through 2013 eyes, but the excitement at Petra concerts in those days was unmatched. This is Christian rock still in it's infancy, still raw, still innocent, and still somewhat untouched by "crossover" ambitions. This made my day. Thank you again.

That's a great video. It's interesting to hear Greg Volz improvising the vocals because that doesn't seem to be something you hear much of any more in the music scene. Everything is so rehearsed and processed, or the "artists" just lipsync to a prerecorded track.
These old videos are a treasure because there is so little of it left from Petra's early career. I just wish the audio was cleaner, but it's fun to watch nonetheless.

Slick was a great player.
It's my own personal thing, but Volz going all over the place with vocals in each verse (or word!) drives me insane. It ruins the song for me. It's like a guitar player doing a solo for the whole song.
He's gifted and a man of God, but This is ROCK BABY, not R & B.\
(phew, got that off my chest)

It's his song so I guess he can do whatever he wants... Have you ever heard Jerusalem live? Their songs gets like a new melody every time they play. That's a bit frustrating when you're used to the studio albums.

Never had the opportunity with Jerusalem.Boray wrote:

And I know its me. I love and appreciate terrific vocals, but am very particular on how I like songs interpreted, especially in the rock genre.
No disrespect to Greg, just my personal prefeence.

I'm with you and have stated many times his mannerisms especially with his hands bother me to no end; I've always have felt it was a huge distraction from not only his vocals but the band also. With his voice and these things this is why I've always said he was more suited for pop/R&B.cvs2kids wrote:Never had the opportunity with Jerusalem.Boray wrote:
