Thank you Winterlens for responding in a calm rational manner.

I also post on the other side when there's something interesting to talk about.
I hate to nitpick, but you never said what your purpose was for posting the article, you just posted it. There was no message posted along with the article saying what you thought about it and that you wanted to know other people's thoughts. Given your penchant to incite American's on this board to anger with skewed views of US politics, it wasn't difficult to make the assumption that you were trying to rile those same people up again. If you want discussion on an article, you might want to actually start it off with some questions and some commentary rather than copy and pasting the article, leaving the reader wondering what your point was.

Also, I'm not sure exactly what you mean about "posting on the other side," but if by that you mean that you post threads about the good in US politics or the bad side of Canadian politics, I'm about 99% sure you have NEVER done either.

To be honest, it's mostly becuase I spent a long time being less than calm, logical, and rational online. I appreciate your comments, guys. :) (Be careful, though, I'm not this nice in real life. ;))

I think that about sums me up as well. There may be some long time veterans of this board who might remember how I used to fly off the handle during arguments, especially when it came to RockMe.

Hehe. Scott was rather opinionated, but we all have our opinions. I got used to him after I'd been posting for awhile, and he did know what he was talking about a lot of the time. He even came up with some funny stuff sometimes. :)

I know it's in Quebec, man-look at where I'm from. But come on. How do you think the liberals are maintaining power in Ontario, despite their ineptitude and proven chicanery? Obviously copious amounts of cash are being funneled into the province, it just hasn't been uncovered yet. They know if they hold Ontario, they hold the entire country, because Quebec is voting bloc. Screw the rest of us.

American Style Senate! That would help so much.

BTW, bill C-38 is not the problem, bill C-250 is. And christians were played like a finely tuned instrument in that little game.
So says a life-long conspiracy theorist.

discussion?

Post by gman » Sun Jul 03, 2005 5:39 pm

Dude, are you sure you really want a discussion? Your subject line mentions Bush and America. An obvious ploy to stir things up. The article really isn't about Bush. It's about something that most Christians understand: morality and truth comes from the Bible. We also understand that this nation was founded on the truths of the bible, and that according to the constitution, everyone is free to do whatever they want regarding religion, and that the Gov't going forward was not to involve itself in religious matters. What has happened is legislation and the courts are slowly eroding away the christian foundation of this country. Something that was never supposed to happen, because the Gov't was supposed to stay out.
One thing I think George Bush understands is that you can't just jump right in and use legislation and the courts to roll back everything and impose that foundation on everyone. That would again be involving the Gov't in a way that was never intended. I think he'd like to put a stop to that. He understands that the church needs to do more to change the hearts and minds of the american people.

Just based on your subject line, people see right past the article to the real reason why you even present such an article. If you want real discussion, maybe better subject lines would help. Something like, "what do you think of the article", or "interesting article". You could follow up with some serious questions for discussion.
You overall style and wording comes across as disingenious.

GMan

btw- why does discussion always seem one sided? When conservative do get into real discussion, the other side is silent. When conservatives get dynamic with the discussion and move into areas outside of the original discussion, the other side refuses to discuss and just accuses conservatives of straying off topic. A discussion is a dynamic, two way street. You go back and forth and see where it takes you. You may say, get back on topic, after awhile. But to say, get back on topic, right away or no discussion is really just another form of filibuster or avoidance.
Seems to me the intent is to just throw charges out there and never have any real discussion; just continually throwing things at the wall and hoping something will stick.

That's my point. Your subject was intended to attract attention, which it did, and it got everybody stirred up and emotional. That caused them to look right past the article. They were in too foul a mood to discuss the article.
I discussed the article. I talked about what I thought the article was saying, and also the tough situation George Bush is in. I got nothing in return!

I don't think the article is necessarily offensive. It seemed as though that someone, either you or the writer of the article wanted to push the point that most Christians think morality comes from George Bush or the Gov't. That's just ludicrous. The article made the point that morality comes from the Bible not the Gov't. I made the point that I agree, and that most Christians know and believe the same. What most Christians who support Bush understand is that the morality and values of this nation is going down the crapper, and at least in most areas, George Bush is trying to stop the trend.
Like I said, he understands that it is dangerous to undo what has already been done. Besides involving the Gov't in a way that was never intended, it could lead some ugly stuff. Most Christians understand that we must change the hearts and minds of the american people. Only the fringe right wants to see Bush and the Gov't start rolling back the things that have eroded away our morality. I don't think those are the people that got Bush elected. The people who got Bush elected are the ones who understand that this country will be in serious trouble without morality and values, and that the Gov't has no business touching the morality upon which this nation was founded.
I don't vehemently defend Bush. I think he's done some terrible and disturbing things in certain areas. However, when it comes to faith and values, a liberal will never be good.

Bush has certainly implemented certain things in the Patriot Act that could make it more difficult (legally) to be a Christian, much less an outspoken one. Thanks Bush, for being the lesser of two evils.

I'm drawn to these discussions like a magnet... 8)

What I'd like to know is this: Are there any real conservatives in Canada? Or is everyone there the typical run-of-the-mill bleeding heart, America-bashing liberal?

Here's a funny one... yesterday I'm driving in my car and I come upon this other car with a bumper sticker on the tail end that said, "I'm a Christian AND a Democrat!". For a moment, I just sat there behind this car and chuckled. I thought, "now that's an oxymoron if I've ever heard one". Then, I couldn't stand it anymore. I conveniently decided to get into the right-hand turning lane so I could get parallel to the car in front of me. When I saw the driver to my left, I rolled down my window and motioned for the lady driver to roll her's down so I could say something. She obliged, and I stuck my head out of my car and said, "I didn't know a Christian could be a democrat! How do you rationalize that?!" She replied with something rather obnoxious and said her preacher was a democrat too. I said, "Really, you've GOT to be kidding!" I couldn't help but notice she was a rather butch looking lady with a rainbow sticker on her car.

And I'm proud to be a Canadian,
Where at least I'm semi-free,
And I won't forget the British man,
Who sold this land to me

Sorry, I just couldn't resist...

Hello Elo!

I'm doing fine... just been really busy with my new job. I've not been able to spend much time on the computer much lately, things will ease up at some point, I hope. Thanks for asking!
