Jekyll and Hyde

Post by Outcast4him » Mon Nov 10, 2003 8:18 am

Hi Everyone

I happen to be a fan of Petra. In fact they are my favorite Christian band period. My favorite albums range from Back To The Street to No Doubt.

I have problems with Petra's newest cd. I dont like the Way Perfect World was written. I miss the keyboards, and I think to much emphasis was put into the mixing of Rob's guitar work. Dont get me wrong I'm a fan of Petra Rock songs. However on this newest release its basically the only thing you can hear. The drums are mixed low, and so is the bass.

I know I am most likely in the minority where it comes to the critism of the album.

Well, Keyboards are not the thing nowadays. I actually don't like them (without keyboards the Beyond Belief type sound would still be popular among alot of teens--I for one like the keyboard drop). As for the mix, I thought it was fine. However, if your used to the mix of Beyond Belief, then yes, the guitars are much louder. For the better I think, but it is, of course, still just a matter of opinion.

Oh, we talked about that awhile back at the old Zone; there were people who said they preferred the keyboards, and they weren't shot for it, just stoned and told they were traitors. :D It was pretty funny discussion. :)

I have missed Johnny Lawry, I do understand how you feel about the piano. I love Beyond Belief and Beat the System. We all have our preferences.

J & H totally rocks. I really appreciate old Petra, but wow! this new stuff is awesome! Best album so far in my opinion. I am a youth dirctor at my church, and I play J & H for the kids, and they totally love it. It has a really heavy modern sound and "in your face" lyrics that the younger generation needs.

:( Too bad the tour part of this album totally stinks.

Let me also state my dissatisfaction with the wording of the song perfect world..I do not like the fact that Bob called Nature, Mother Nature. I know poeple will say I'm being too picky but thats ok.

I love the song I will seek you. I would like the song perfect world more if the mother nature reference wasnt used...

I still love Petras Songs..I also think Rob is a talented and gifted song writter. I'm glad they are still going. Hope the touring end of the franchise gets straightened.

The Love Of Money is the root of all evil....

In the song "Perfect World" The words (Some still worship MOTHER NATURE in her glory) Is directed at the TREE HUGGERS in my opinion.

Probably not the best choice of words. Tends to make you think there is a Mother Nature. But this is just a song and I take Mother Nature = Nature. People are getting back to nature but remember who created all this. This is poetry after all so I think some poetic license is allowed. I am certainly not a fundamentalist when it comes to song lyrics. I like this song alot as I do all the songs on J&H.

Yours in Christ

I love J&H but do kinda miss the keyboards. Would like to see them come back at some point. But it's not that big a deal.

I don't see the problem with the wording "mother nature." It's not that WE see nature as "mother", but the folks who worship nature maybe do. I *love* Perfect World!

And I despise the way...

Post by Historymaker » Tue Nov 11, 2003 8:36 am

... that the song is called "Perfect World" when they already have a song called "Hey World" on Unseen Power and it bothers me that they use the word "in" in "Perfect World" because I think "in" is a really overused word and has become cliched in songwriting. And finally, I'm really disgusted that Bob didn't check with us and ask our input before writing, publishing and recording these songs... what was he thinking?!?!?

Don't you understand? He said "Mother Nature" to contrast the fact that God is the Father. Father trumps Mother! (Oh no, the wrath of all the mammas on the Zone rains down on me!) The song is belittling the whole "Mother Nature" thing, not advancing it as a valid idea.
