Is a Farewell Tour a Promise?
You all probably know what I'm getting at.
Suppose the Farewell Tour is a huge success, with mammoth ticket sales and thousands of copies of J&H sold. Suppose Inpop says, "How about doing one more record?" Suppose the natural next thing to do is to tour in support of that record.
One thing leads to another, right?
Is there any reason to hope that Petra might not be dead and gone after all?

I think we can hope for is that we get a live CD/DVD out of this. There are 50+ dates in about three months time. Nobody in CCM is able to do that and it rivals the U2's and Rolling Stones tours on the secular side. We know that Inpop, Bob and John have all talked about it but we all were thinking it was a longshot, but now I think they have to look at it seriously.

Ah, People do it all of the time. Remember, if they weren't quitting, they wouldn't be this busy. People are seeing this as a possible money cow.executioner wrote:I think we can hope for is that we get a live CD/DVD out of this. There are 50+ dates in about three months time. When I was touring with country artists, I toured 250 days a year. 50 shows in three months is pretty lite actually. That's nearly one show every 2 days. We did one show per day for months (excluding Sundays).
Now, larger artists with big production tours don't have that many markets to play in to make the draw that they need, so they may not do 50 shows in three months, because of possoble sales. It has nothing to do with demand.
CCM concert attendance is down now, as is secular. So the big boys book in larger cities where they can fill one arena with 10k people vs. playing 3 smaller gigs to 3k people each. It is economics.

It's funny how attendance is down for most styles in CCM and the secular world, but the older bands are doing great in the concert rhelm. Queensryche and Judas Preist just ended their sold out tour. Every show but 3 out of 75 dates were sold out. Def Leppard is having big success on their current tour. U2 is sold out across the world. Bon Jovi wasn't planning on touring until Jan. (new CD in Sept.), but the demand is so huge for them they are booking dates for the fall now. Stryper tickets are selling briskly. Aerosmith is also planning a tour for the spring/summer/fall next year and that will be without a new CD to promote. On their web site they say expect 120 dates or more. Alot of these older artist may not be either making new material or selling alot of the new material they are making, but they sure are selling out alot of venues. Oh! did I forget about the Rolling Stones?

well
my opinion is that the year is not over yet so I`m gonna keep my mind open. Is not december yet, we just started august, many things can happen in a couple of months, even the idea of a possible project, we can`t know.

If Petra wants to maintain good integrity, this better be it. It would be kind of wrong in my eyes to bluff a farewell tour just to get more money to justify doing one more album (this DOESN'T include talks of doing a live/praise album)..I mean after that.

bluff
I don't think there's any bluffing happening... I think that as far as John and Bob are concerned, this is IT. Besides, John's not any good at bluffing! hehe Seriously... at the VERY least, I would plan on several years of downtime, but even a reunion after that is, I would imagine, very unlikely. A VERY determined promoter might be able to talk some version of the band into coming together for a golden oldies show or something, given a large enough incentive, but don't hold your breath, anyone. If you have a chance to go hear Petra this year, DO IT! It probably WILL be your final chance.
