Hurricane Concert Relief Slur
I don't know who it was, but on the Hurricane Relief Concert that Matt Lauer was hosting, there was a black guy that was up there talking about how the news coverage would show black people "looting" and white people "looking for food"... and then made a comment that "George Bush doesn't like black people"... after which the network cut him off. What an absolute idiot!! What on earth would inspire someone to make such a ridiculous comment? National attention maybe? Exploiting disaster at the expense of millions to make a personal attack sounds more like it. What a jerk!! Did anyone catch the name of the guy who said it?

This rumour has already been dealt with at snopes. While two photos were captioned in such ways, it was in no way racially motivated, as the photographers' explanations show.
I think this is an interesting example of the mentality of victimization and indeed paranoia that seem so prevelant today.

Here's the clip - it's not funny, but Mike Meyers looks like a deer in headlights.

Of course it didn't take long for sleazy democrats to exploit others' tragedy for political gain. Doesn't surprise me at all. The comment about our troops being elsewhere that could otherwise help here now just goes to show how uneducated this Kayne guy is about national defense. And what was the comment about having permission to kill his people?

Re: guh
The thing you don't understand about Bush is that Bush is sincere. The photos you're referring to I would say were not "staged" at all. I don't doubt for an instant that Bush was sincere and his heart was going out to those in need.Matthew RJ wrote:And Bush's photo op with hugs all around isn't exploiting the situation? Both sides play it for political gain. That's called politics.
It's just like Bush having the fortitude to make decisions that are not popular. Bush doesn't care about polls. He does what he believes is right regardless of what anyone else thinks or has to say about it. He has demonstrated this countless times much to the dismay of the liberal press and liberal cronies in our government and around the world. It takes a genuine person to resist the pressure of giving-in to making "popular" decisions instead of just doing what's right.
But that's okay - believe what you will - most of the rest of us know better.

But you know... the ONLY reason it's so funny is because it is soooo NOT reality! For some reason, just because we have a Godly President who is a Christian, you think we think he is Christ incarnate. HILARIOUS!!
I needed a good laugh today. Thanks!!

The picture is interesting because it does not seem to be as far off the mark as some would think-not that Bush is Christ, but apparently to say something disparaging about the man seems to be akin to blasphemy. On the other side, seeing any good in him is blind worship-the piece works both ways as a commentary. As I've said previously, I find this polarization foreboding. It will eventually split the western nations apart, perhaps never to be repaired.
I would warn against putting anyone on a pedestal the way some are doing with Bush. He has already proven he will do and say some rather unchristian things for the sake of political expediency. And yes he, like all politicians, must play the political game. To believe he does not is foolish.
Besides which, he is still a part of the fallen human race-this means he will do the wrong thing and will make mistakes. We cannot know his motives, but with human beings the safer bet is always that they are at best impure.

I am not a huge Bush supporter, by any means.
But RJ, photo-ops??
First of all the President travels with a full press corp. He could get a photo-op at any time, anywhere. In fact I would say that there are very few public moments that the President isn't being filmed or photographed.
Second, what about all of the celebs that are down there getting there pics taken with the victims? I would think that they could be accused of taking photo-ops too, if you accuse Bush of that.
Third and more on point, the mistakes made were certainly not a conscious effort by the President to "stick it" to the black population of New Orleans. Beauracracy is to blame for the slow response --- Bush didn't creat that.

I hate to have to say it, but much of the problem seems to lie with NO itself. I know if I were able-bodied person, I would not be staying to 'guard my stuff' or 'find my dog'. I would not have voted in that crazy mayor. But then hindsight is always 20/20...while I might like to think I would be wiser, I don't really know how I would react (I do know it only makes me love Saskatchewan more!)

Also something else alot do not realize is the Federal Gov. can not come in to a state with Federal aid in anyway(that includes military action) without the consent of the Governor & Lt. Governor of that state that needs aid. The Hurricane made landfall on Monday evening and the Lousiana Governor did not give consent until early Wednesday morning. Mississippi and Alabama Officals were giving their consents early Tuesday. Did you all notice on how quick the Feds got into those two states? I think alot of the blame has to fall on the State of Lousiana and also the city of New Orleans Officals.
If someone like Kanye West wants to say something like he did, That's fine with me; He is the one looking ignorant not the person on the recieving end of the slur.
