He was trying to hurry us up getting photos with Petra and was rude. He is just doing his job and will tread on anyone in the his way.

Use this as a positive don't let your heart be hardened mate.

"I wouldn't be so sure about that." And like John's going to be selling out everywhere! Give me a break after the Petra Farewell I don't think John will be touring for a few years and by that time this Wayne will probably be history if John isn't bringing in the money.

Guys, misterbob has a point; I think we've had our say. Maybe we should go ahead and move on now. Focus on God.

my 5 cents...

stupid kids from a youth group????

is not their fault that you ended up in this situation :(

I believe Wayne made prolly a good choice with the lighting thing, i don`t know Petra requirements. BUT, BUT, even if you have the truth in your hands you gotta know HOW you are gonna show it. Wayne shoud have recognized in a way the hardwork you did.

Please don`t be sad *hug*, we do recognize your hard job, your family and friends too and specially God. You need the recognizition of that idiot, he is just a man, a very simple and tiny man I must say. If he didn`t recognize your hard work is HIS problem not yours...he is the dumb not you.

You know what you did, God knows, we do and your family and friends too and that`s what matter... *HUG*.

BEAK!!!!!!!!

Long time no hear! Get it hear. I can't hear you but you are a singer. whew tough room.

Are you all kidding me? Wow has this gotten out of control or what? People, let it rest. Another road manager once hurried John along when I was talking to him 10 years ago. That doesn't make him a jerk, it means he's doing his job cause John can't stay all night.

Riders are provided for this kind of show and as Sue said many times promotors don't follow them. A 10 ft. high lighting system? And then you say that lighting doesn't really matter?

Let's look at the claim of what Wayne said...

]"Tim, I'm gonna make this easy for you. I need you to take all that down. We can't use it. I mean, we have bigger merchandise displays than that".

This does not sound like he was putting you down. You were not liking having to put the lights in the loft and he was simply matter of fact. I need you to take it down. We can't use it. And the truth is that Petra's merch stands are bigger than that.

Light is a huge part of a concert and it doesn't sound like you were fully prepared for the situation. that could be the promotors fault for lack of communication. It looked like the guy responsible took responsibility and asked for forgivness on the Zone. I don't think taking it out on Wayne in this forum does any good at all. All that does is tear down and make Petra look bad. As well as make you look bad in the process. To make a post about my crappy Petra experience does not help the band you claim to love.

Dude, in love I say let it go and instead see where you can better yourself from the experience and put together a better light show. Learn from this. Sometimes the truth does hurt, but we will know the Truth and it will set us free.

I've been lurking in the shadows a long long time waiting for something to interest me. I don't know how long I'll be here, maybe until at least Jan. 2006 or so. I did pull some of my equipment out and blow the dust off and out of it and discovered I could pull the vocals completely of Jekyll and Hyde and I also discovered I hadn't forgot how to sing. I actually haven't sang in almost two years in front of a crowd or by myself for that matter and thought maybe just maybe I can't sing anymore. I was wrong but I am just goofing with myself thinking people want to hear John Schlitt vocals anymore. I really should pursue the local recording guitar guy that has been asking me to do something for like four years or so. I don't know if I should even try anymore. I kind of gave up on everything ministry wise. All I do is race motocross with my kids, and you know what? I'm not that bad either, I maybe in C class but I still got second in 19 guys, yes there was some kids, but they didn't beat me!! HA HA

In Wayne's defense...

Post by Historymaker » Tue Oct 11, 2005 1:21 am

I have had two encounters with Wayne where I have spoken to him at length and through both encounters he has been friendly, affable, and quite civil... moreover reflecting some biblical insights not often meditated on in the often shallow, cliched Christianese we love to practice all too often.

He introduced me to his wife and his beautiful baby girl, and I introduced him to my 3 year old son, whom I had brought with me to Tuesday's taping last week. This is a man who has nothing to gain from being nice to me, and a man to whom I have nothing to offer whatsoever from any business standpoint... hence, we can rule out any hidden motives or agendas to his pleasantries. Yet, he remains cordial. Friendly. Dare I say it... nice?

Does he have a mean streak? An unpleasant side? A modicum of tactless behavior? Bad days? And further, I also ask... who among us DOES NOT? I sure as heck do and would be remiss to believe otherwise. What we may see as honest proposals or advances to promote, book, or otherwise assist with a Petra concert (such as lighting) could possibly be to him fans acting out of emotion or a sincere love for the band but sans the rationale, logistics, or professionalism to properly and effectively carry out a concert. I can readily see where it would get old. FAST. Call me a jerk, call me foolish, call me unchristlike, and please say a prayer for my transgressions if that is how my stance is perceived (I can never receive too much prayer), but:

"Tim, I'm gonna make this easy for you. I need you to take all that down. We can't use it. I mean, we have bigger merchandise displays than that"

could quite possibly be the LEAST of anyone's concerns were I charged with Wayne's authority in any given situation that he has endured.

And finally, I don't think anyone has ever considered the cultural barrier that could be leading to MUCH misinterpretation. I have more than a few friends from Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand and for some reason, 'tact' is not the commodity there that it is in our country where political correctness has run rampant. They are blunt. Direct. To the point. PAINFULLY (as displayed in the whole lighting scenario) honest. To say that 'tact' is an unlearned trait to Wayne could be marvelously accurate in a manner never fathomed on the Zone. Though potentially perceived as such, that doesn't make his every remark inherently sarcastic. That doesn't make him sinful. That doesn't make him evil. That makes him tactless... and, easily misunderstood perhaps. If you would like to split hairs on the whole thing, let's remember that there was another guy who was often regarded as blunt and tactless when he confronted the so called spiritual of His time...

Not a segue at all to where I contend that Wayne is the epitome of Christ's life... that is for Christ Himself to decide. Just a perspective, just food for thought, and just my two cents.

Praying for the man never hurts.

Ok, I've sat here and read through this whole thing and here is what I think. I think a few people are being a bit too hard on the author of this thread. He has not been keeping this subject alive all on his own. This thread blew up into what it did, because quite a few petheads have negative impressions of Wayne. Quite a few people have fed the fire here. Yes, the author should not have called the kids "stupid" and yes maybe he needs to develop a thicker skin, but he's far from being alone in his negative experience with Wayne as this thread has proved.

Personally, if I had someone on my team who created half as much negative PB as Wayne does, I would seriously have reconsider working with them. When there is this much of it, it doesn't just boil down to a accident or a bad day or a misunderstanding. There is an obvious personality issue at work here and the failure of Petra to address it in recent years has without question done some degree of harm to their overall witness, even if it's only a slight one.

Hey, I just got a chance to read all of the feedback today. i just wanted to say "thanks" to those who can sympathize with me, but i really wasn't trying to throw a pitty party. I didn't know it would have this big of a response. Mostly, I was still kinda depressed about it and i just needed to vent. I didn't have anyone other than my wife (who felt the same) that i could vent to who would understand where i'm coming from. In my venting, I probably offended some people, I appologize (especially about the "stupid kids in the youth group" remark) OBVIOUSLY i don't think they're stupid and i'm glad they got a chance to experience a Petra concert. I'm 23, yes still a little immature, but everyone says stuff they don't mean and everyone NEEDS someone to hear them out. So, i appologize for my rude comments and i THANK those of you who offered encouragement, scripture, and similar stories. It makes me feel ALOT better! Jeff, i want to appologize to you as well, you have been nothing but nice to me and i didn't want you to think I held anything on YOU. Even though, i only met you for the first time at the concert, i can tell you're a great guy. I have more to add when i get to work tonight (DSL)

Thank You

Post by PJ » Tue Oct 11, 2005 10:50 am

I think we can put this thread to an end, Thank You Tim for your comments about myself and the same to you. I know there has been a lot of comments negatively but I ask all that we Thank the Lord for all the great things that Petra has meant to all of us and the memories instead of beating a dead horse. We will all learn and grow from experiences in life and people will say and do things we not like or agree with, but the bottom line, posting on this board about it will not change circumstances or people, love will, prayer will, the ministry of the Holy Spirit will and especailly forgiveness of offenses and turning the other cheek, let's spur one another one towards Christ and the things that are good in Him.

Thank You Bob, John, Paul Greg and everyone else who has ministered with and been a part of Petra, you have changed lives.

I don't mean to drag this out, but I'm sort of curious...Of course nobody is perfect and we all have bad days. But is that license to just do or say whatever we want no matter how it might affect people or how hurtful it is and then shrug it off by saying "nobody's perfect?" If you have a bad day and hurt people, you should do what you can to make amends and do your best not to behave that way any more, not continue doing the same thing over and over. No, you don't have to be in a good mood all the time or be a goody-goody, but there's no justification for deliberately being hurtful. Our behavior and how we treat each other is important. Surely if he can be nice to people he doesn't do business with he can be nice to the people he does business with also.

Jesus was blunt with people who were making demands they weren't willing to try to live up to themselves. They weren't practicing what they preached and needed some shaking up. There's a place for that.
