Replica signatures? I would hope for the real thing for the first xxxx customers.
I guess I'll bring it to the concert in December and get the real things.

I checked my e-mail and there it was. I feel like crying. I love the cover, but I hate the fact that they are leaving. And you know, not only will I miss seeing them live and looking forward to new c.d.'s, but I will miss meeting up with all of you Petheads. I've been to tons of different concerts of different bands, but Petra concerts have the most loving fans of all. I'm gonna miss that. :( :(

petra farewell cover art

Post by beak » Sat Oct 15, 2005 8:06 am

I totally dislike it, not at all what I would have expected. The guy in the corn field would have been better than this and I wasn't keen on that idea either. It should look something like that pick guard that is on Bob's guitars he's selling or the flying guitar thing or something other than two main Petra members with two hired guns at the end of 33 years of service. Not to slam the two new guys either, I just think it really doesn't fit the album at all. It wasn't a funeral because the whole idea is eternal life and I would think it would have reflected that other the a bow. I don't even think Inpop even takes our suggestions, I don't think any of us would have come up with an idea like this, even though some may like it.

I like it. It says farewell and they are retiring. I would have like the flying guitars, but I still think its OK.

Quit doggin' on the art ya'll!

Inpop bent over backwards for all of us Petra fanatics who have been screamin' for a live album for years. Now that we have one (AND A DVD), we complain that the artwork is not up to par.... WT Heck??? It would be the same as if when you were little, you ask for a G.I. Joe action figure for your birthday and when your mom gives it to you, you get upset, cause you wanted the one with the Kung Fu Grip....

I think Inpop has done a fine job in such a small amount of time. With the cover being sort of dark, it already hints that it is not a pop album, but that it's actually going rock. The pointing fingers and "school house rock" sunset really caps it off with a retro-flavor, which is very much at the forefront of design now, whether people like or not.

I think it would be cool if they packaged it into like one of those low gloss CD tri-fold cases though. That is like a really classy design too. Petra's never had it packaged like that, which would really stand alone from all of the others.

Now THAT would be totally unoriginal for an album cover.

Let me get this straight... A photo of Petra bowing at the end of their live performance doesn't fit as the cover art for a CD of Petra's live performance?

After I first broke the news about Petra's retirement, John told me in an interview that he really wanted to do a live album as a showcase of Paul and Greg. These guys are not just "hired guns." They play with their hearts and souls, and they do an amazing job. I've seen 'em live twice, and wish I could see them a few more times. Oh well.

I think this is a decent cover. It has a solid concept and it looks good. I would have preferred something more illustration-driven, like a spinoff of the flying guitar concept. But I can live with this one.

Not that anybody really cares what I think, but I like it. I do wonder if they will airbrush out the white wadded up t-shirt on the right side. I remember when they took the photos they went to the trouble to remove the cups and water bottles, but they missed that shirt or towel.

I saw Petra back on Sept 24th and I can tell you that Paul and Greg are every bit as "Petrafied" as Bob, John, Ronnie, Volz or Louie. These guys are great talents and Greg Bailey brought something to a Petra concert I had NEVER seen or thought of before. A cello!!!!!!! IT BLEW ME AWAY. I absolutely loved that. Paul is an INCREDIBLE drummer but WAIT, He has a really good singing voice. I'm a drummer and I've tried to sing and play at the same time and it's not easy at all. I haven't seen all that many drummers who can do it. I can sing when I'm not playing and I can play when I'm not singing but both? wow. I actually feel bad that Paul and Greg aren't able to do a studio album but I'm very happy for them that thye will go down in Petra's history. Hired guns my foot these 2 men of God proved to this VERY long time Petra fan that they absolutely belong right where they are. After meeting them they really seem like nice guys too.
