Someone's being clever here...
You do tend to be picky about stuff like that when you work in a field that deals with English and writing. Editors of an article will often put a person's last name in brackets for clarification as Mountain Man pointed out. And John Lawry has been called Johnny for a very long time to avoid confusion with the Schlittmeister.
Do I detect the start of another controversial debate?

Greetings from a Norwegian!!!
Hi everyone!
No, Inpop does not have a Norwegian office - I wish!
I attended the recording at the 4th, and as a favor to a friend in Norway (who owns the importing/distribution company for Christian music there - Master Music) I offered to write a review. They also wanted me to write an article/eulogy - all this to help promote sales of the upcoming album and DVD. And having been a fan of Petra for the last 25 years I'm of course happy to help out. So to make a long story short I contacted Inpop to get some help in what to write. Lizza was very sweet and sent me the Press Release to use as basis for my article. As it did say "For immediate release" I thought it was ok to post it here - I'm truly sorry if I wasn't supposed to and did something wrong. Please forgive me.
I have to say it sure was fun attending the concert/recording and I wish there was a life beyond 12/31 for the band. But all good things must come to an end. I have lots of great memories from the band that I will cherish forever - God met me through their music and ministry. My first concert was actually during the Beat the system tour and I happened to be part of arranging it - so it sure was a thrill seing Greg and John (Lawry) again.
I hope all us Petheads will do everything we possibly can to help promote the sale of both the CD and the DVD and remember don't just buy one - give it as a gift to a friend, maybe one that hasn't received God in their life yet. The CD would make a perfect Christmas gift too...
Gods blessing upon you all! You're a great bunch of people - all you Petheads.
Sincerely,
John

And it's not too late for Annie, she could be next to you - Don't miss the chance to tell her before her life is through - We gotta tell her Jesus loves her, tell her Jesus cares!

Oh, you didn't do anything wrong by posting it...In fact you probably didn't post it fast enough.
It's a good article. There's an ongoing joke here ...Sue and I do tend to pick stuff apart because we both do work connected with English and journalism. It wasn't meant personally at all, and probably nobody else would have noticed it.
Thanks for getting the press release out.

Well... there ya have it, then...InpopLizza wrote:Hey everyone. I'm the publicist at Inpop who wrote that press release. The quote in question came straight from the horse's mouth. In order to preserve the integrity of quotes in our press releases, we don't typically tend to alter artist quotes unless there is a major grammatical issue.
THAT is proper journalism.

press release
I saw the same basic press release on Jesusfreakhideout today, except that they didn't include the paragraph break that was posted here. Without the break, it is pretty clear what is going on:
However, I do disagree with the "...we don't typically tend to alter artist quotes unless there is a major grammatical issue. THAT is proper journalism" statement Lizza made. Placing clarifying information in brackets is not "altering" a quote. It is clarifying the quote, and is often done for bravity. In this case, it appears the paragraph break is what temporarily confused us Zoners (me included), and that may or may not have been in the original text (I don't know). I think we strongly associate "John" with John Schlitt when we're thinking about Petra... probably it wasn't confusing for non-Zoners.
I would say that brackets would not be required, but they would not be incorrect either. But what do I know... I just make Web sites.

It was great to see Greg and John on the same stage together, says PETRA lead vocalist since 1986, John Schlitt. Everyone had fun and Im sure the fans enjoyed the show. Weve had a wonderful 33 years, and God has done amazing things through this band. We are thankful for all He has given us, Schlitt says.

Absolutely. I've written articles and done many interviews over the years... and MJ has hit the nail on the head.
Of course this isn't a big deal, but without the 'missing paragraph' it does lead to some confusion. You don't want confusion in your press releases.
Hehehe.... Yes, you do! And you go a great job at it, I may add.I would say that brackets would not be required, but they would not be incorrect either. But what do I know... I just make Web sites
