Songs Petra Did BUT....

Post by callbeyond » Fri Oct 14, 2005 12:36 pm

Weren't on a Petra album.
(I'm sure this has been done before, but I figured what the heck!)

I know of a couple:

"Our Turn Now" with Carman
"Onward Christian Soldiers" on the Our Hymns CD....a loooong time ago.

NEXT...question...did Petra ever do any songs that weren't on Petra Albums when Greg Volz was with them?

Actually, Onward Christian Soldiers did appear on the compilation CD Word did a few years ago. I think the compilation was called Still Means War or something like that.

There's also
Who Do You Listen To
I Don't Want To Fall Away From You (Keith Green Tribute)

Both of those songs are done with the late 80s-early 90s lineup.

Yup, done before. Thought you might like a link to the old discussion, since there are some things listed there that aren't here...

Actually, that thread was for songs that Petra played live but never recorded in studio. This thread is for songs that Petra recorded in studio, but were for side projects, and therefore never showed up on an actual Petra album.

I have a CD called Breakaway Praise That includes one song that John Schlitt sings solo on with LoLouie Weaver playing. We belive is the songs title. The cd contains another song that John sings with Jaime Owens-Collins. Louie plays the drums on most of the songs. It also feautre sRick Florian of the Whiteheart era. It was put out byJoyfull Heart Music, 1992.

Check http://home.filternet.nl/~p.th.vanwinge ... index.html for a complete discography of Petra. And then I mean: complete. It has all the information you ever wanted to know on every Petra album, song or guest appearance.

Wow. That is thorough. There is one guest appearance missing though. John Schlitt sang a couple of lines of vocals on the Steve Camp album Justice. It's in the song Do You Feel Their Pain, which featured many guest artists. If memory serves, John's lines go:
"Will you lend a hand
Or will you cast a stone?"

I also found it interesting how radically different the track listing is for CAJU from the original vinyl, including renaming a song. I'm guessing they renamed Without You to avoid confusion with (Couldn't Find Love) Without You on WWT. For the record, the cassette version has the same order as the CD.

Oh, and how could I forget John and Greg appearing on the Liberty 'N Justice project Welcome to the Revolution. John sings on It's About Love and Greg sings on Bargain Bin.

Heres one that I know was not recorded, but they sang The Star Spangled Banner before the Philadelphia Phillies game, back in 1990. They did a concert after the game and previewed the Beyond Belief video up on the big screen at Vetrans Stadium. They rocked the stadium, coming out to All Fired Up.., it brings back some great memories.
