Songs on the CD
I noticed that the Farewell taping in Franklin..the band did a bunch of songs. Will every song that was played live be on the CD or just some of them? Which ones? I bet that the CD will have fewer songs than the DVD but I hope I am wrong.

Re: Songs on the CD
I really don't see why there would be fewer songs it would all clearly fit onto the CD. the only reason I could see why they would do it would be to get someone to buy both the CD and DVD, but the DVD is going to have alot behind the scenes type stuff so I don't see that being a factor.philtvnews wrote:I noticed that the Farewell taping in Franklin..the band did a bunch of songs. FORGIVE! FORGET! & LET GO!
There will definitely be songs cut for the CD version. Bob confirmed that when I talked with him after the KC concert. We were in a hurry so I didn't pin down which ones were cut.

I really don't understand the music business. They do a farewell concert and record it live so that they can release it on CD/DVD, but they make the concert short put two medleys in there and then they still want to cut some of it out. Clearly all the concert would fit on the CD WHATS THE PROBLEM?Kirkman wrote:There will definitely be songs cut for the CD version. Bob confirmed that when I talked with him after the KC concert. Yep! It figures. We get an awesome 4 hour concert...(not that, that is how the long the CD is) But even at that, overall it was basically a 2 hour show...would fit on a CD easily, and now they are gonna take songs away???!! What is up! UNLESS, the save the "extra special moments" like the Greg Volz and John Lawry moments for the DVD. Beats me!

As long as the entire set list will be on the DVD, I am not going to complain. Assuming the show was approximately 2 hours (120 mins) long, it would not all fit onto one 80-minute CD without some heavy editing - such as omitting a few songs. Consider, for example, the CD version of Captured In Time & Space - in order to make most everything fit onto one CD, an entire song was omitted, as were much of Greg's comments in between songs. It would be cool if Petra Farewell was to be released as a 2-CD set, because everything can quite easily fit without many edits, but then the cost of production is increased (although not by much per unit, it adds up - especially when considering 10,000 copies or more are produced).
Like I said earlier, though, I will not complain about the CD version, as long as the DVD contains the entire set list. If the DVD omits songs, then I will be slightly disappointed.

It does seem to be the industry norm for the CD version of live concerts to be shorter than the Video and/or DVD version. I don't know what it's that way, it just seems to be. A few cases in point...About 13 years ago Steven Curtis Chapman released "The Live Adventure," a recorded concert both on cassette or CD and Video. This was before DVD's were invented. The Video version had about 13 or 14 songs on it, the CD had about 10. Last year, Third Day came out with "Live Wire," and the ingenious thing about this is that you got both the DVD and the CD in the same package, however, the CD only had 9 live songs on it, while the DVD had about 15. I'm sure there are dozens of other examples of the same thing. However, there have been very many live albums that were long on the song list. Most of the ones I can think of are secular, though.
