New Concert 12/31?
New Concert 12/31?
Well, I just saw it at the H2O website. Somehow they pulled off cancelling John's solo dates in SC and they now have a concert in Murphy, NC on 12/31. For those of you who already have tickets to Dawsonville, GA, Murphy is not that far away. You can go to both.
I have to tell you this really, really stinks. Not only was a youth organization in SC misled, but Eddie wanted 12/31 for Dawsonville a long time ago, but was told it was not available. One more sign that this is just another worldly business wearing the name Christian.
I'm sorry for you Sue. I'm sure this really sucks to have gone through the work to put together the solo dates only to have it flushed down the toilet.

Others Too!
There's also a few new dates in Europe and South America according to Huie. This will definitely help them sell the new CD.

Yeah, the 12/31 date stinks for several reasons, but John still has the 12/29 date in SC, and the 12/31 date could possibly be done on 1/1, so hopefully Sue and the youth conference in SC will make out OK.
I sure would like to know if this will really be the last concert in the US, or will there be another at the end of the Europe dates?

Europe
Just to clarify, the new dates in Europe and South America are not in 2006. They are just filling in open dates before the end of the year. I would expect a handful of the open dates while they are in Europe to still get filled. So, unless they breakdown and start adding dates in 06, Murphy will be the last.

Sometimes things might happen for a reason. As I've seen for other reasons people get too excited before knowing all the facts. A concert in Florida I was going to go to was cancelled. I was a little upset until I found out why. Maybe Sue can tell us later. People are still trying to book more concerts for Petra even after the Jan. 1st. Let's just wait and find out.

We were told that at the end of 2005 Petra would not be booking any more U.S dates but would consider getting some dates in 2006 for Europe. I'm under the understanding that there is a demand for Petra to play some U.S. dates in 2006. I know my church has inquired about having a concert in the spring and they were told that lets wait til the first of the year and we will go from there. Scott told them to contact him in mid Jan. to see if its possible. Does this sound like a band that is offically calling it quits at the end of 2005? I know we actually had in our area(Dallas) at least 4 different venues that were trying to get Petra this fall but Petra didn't have enough open dates for that to happen.Petrapraise wrote:Sometimes things might happen for a reason. 2006
What stinks, though, is that someone already had asked for the 31st (In fact, he thought about taking both dates) and was told it was gone. Now it was given to another church. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for Petra getting more dates. I just think how this was handled is indicative of how this business works.
But I think I see what's going on here. I think they are going to try to jam as many in for 2005 as they can. Not only do I expect to see some of the open dates during the Europe trip fill in, but I think we'll also see the 26th through the 29th fill in with US concerts. Why not? It's during Christmas break so any will be a good night.
Finally, after everything that can possibly be crammed into 2005 is done, and Petra gets some rest, we'll hear an announcement that the "Farewell" album promotion tour will continue into Spring and maybe will coincide with the release of the DVD.
Someone will certainly argue otherwise but I wouldn't be a bit surprised. I'm sure Inpop would appreciate the continued promotion of the CD.

Well, I have to say that I am sorry that the SC thing may have been cancelled. Is this now official information? The people going there are sure to be disappointed, unless John does some serious schedule manipulation and jet-setting over those few days. It also stinks for the guy from Dawsonville who thought he would have the last US Petra concert.
Circumstances aside, though, I believe it to be a good thing that there is demand for Petra to continue. If there are even more US dates that come to pass in '06, so be it. One of the reasons I am planning to travel to Dawsonville was to catch the last US Petra concert. I will still plan to go, and will probably get to North Carolina, as well. I hope Dawsonville is still the great party and celebration/tribute to Petra that was supposedly planned, and that that can be repeated on 12/31. I am likely to consider this my 'farewell trip' to travel so far to see Petra perform - be there another final farewell somewhere or not. If there is another show somewhere near Chicago, I will try to attend, but I will be hard pressed to make another long trek.
Regardless, if the demand for Petra is strong, and the guys want to continue to play out the string, as it were, I say more power to them. We've all been lamenting their retirement, so enjoy it for as long you can. Let's just try to get THE final show (until the reunion, if there is one) in Sue D's backyard.

Because the show has been posted to H2O Artist Agency's site, I would say that it's official - especially since H2O is the agency booking the tour. Granted, all tour dates are subject to change without prior notice, so perhaps the promoter for John's solo show backed out, or perhaps the Petra date for 12/31 will change, but I would say that as of now it's "official" since it's posted on H2O's site. H2O typically does not post any shows to its site unless they are confirmed.

The promoter for John solo on Dec. 29 & 31 did not back out, hasn't cancelled nor any of the above. In fact, he may not even know about getting bumped. These two shows were booked and deposited back in Spring.
As Bill said, this is a youth conference, covering two sessions. In fact, the promoter has had Petra in the past, and wants to do more with John in the future, as this is a growing ministry.
I wonder now what he will be thinking if he doesn't get his second date. Don't ask me what I'm thinking right now!
I have an email in to Seboa to find out what is going on... obviously John can't be in two places at once on Dec. 31.
I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Also, the promoter in Enid actually paid extra so he could advertise that he was the last U.S. Petra concert. There's plenty of bull flying around.

That happens when you put this manager in the mix.Michael wrote:Also, the promoter in Enid actually paid extra so he could advertise that he was the last U.S. Petra concert. There's plenty of bull flying around.
