1992....Six Flags in STL......DC Talk and Petra......the DCTers might call that a co-headliner even if they did open the show. Man was that a loud concert?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Josh....who opened for them at the American Theatre---"No Doubt Tour". I don't remember the opening act but thought that the Petra concert was outstanding!
ONLY 16 DAYS UNTIL THE LIVE CD COMES OUT!!!!!!!!!!!
Bands Petra has toured with
Not to change the subject, but I really do wish that one of the Christian owned stations would take some initiative in creating a show like that. I rarely (if ever) watch any of the stations like PAX, or TBN(?) etc.Petrapraise wrote:Looks like we need VH1 to create a show...
"Where are they now?...What happened to the bands that toured with Petra?"
BTW - "not so funny story about opening bands".........
I used to read CCM in part for the concert listings they used to run. (

I was SOOOOO upset when I found out Petra was opeing for Newsboys

The one really cool thing was that John Schlitt was out front, and no one in my home town (esp. the younger kids) really knew who he was. I got to talk to him for close to 20 mins. at his merch table.

Well...I guess that night wasn't ALL bad.

Yeah, it was loud. I remember we were stuck waiting in line for Thunder River when the concert started, and we could hear the music there.Chuck wrote:1992....Six Flags in STL......DC Talk and Petra......the DCTers might call that a co-headliner even if they did open the show. Regarding DC Talk ... I don't think that would have been a coheadline tour. "Free At Last" had just come out, so they were just beginning their rise. Petra was a multi-million-record-selling band. But I could be wrong about that.
I don't know. I only saw Petra once at Six Flags, and I am fairly sure it was 1992.Josh....who opened for them at the American Theatre---"No Doubt Tour". I don't remember the opening act but thought that the Petra concert was outstanding!

When I saw them in Providence, the summer of 2001 (on the Double Take tour), The Waiting was one of three bands opening for them. I don't remember the other two. I do remember that Pete Orta (I think that's who it was; it was during that big-turnover period. Maybe it was Ronny Cates?) played guitars for The Waiting and Petra that night.
This summer, you could say Jump 5, Tait and all the other bands on the festival played with Petra.
I also remember the rage among Petra fans that greeted the news that Petra was opening for Newsboys. But the 'boys are big Petra fans and said nice things on the "Revival" DVD, so it's hard to stay mad.

Tour
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this one. The first time I saw Petra circa 1990-91 they had Steven Curtis Chapman opening. My how times change! Just about the only thing I remember about him is that he joked that people thought he was a two-man band...Steve 'n' Curtis Chapman.
It made me laugh back then.
A big thanks to whoever mentioned PFR with Dakota Motor Company on the WUC tour. That was the second time I saw Petra and my wife's first time...of course she was still the girl from school I had roped into ditching a church event to go with me at the time.
It sure is sad to see Petra go. I saw them in Boulder on the campus of CU which was an odd venue but appropriate nonetheless. The whole experience was surreal. It made me realize that my youth truly is gone along with much that I once prized. That's kind of an odd feeling.
Well, what a great trip down memory lane.
