After the ballad medley, they trotted out the originals for a few songs. They started out with the one and only Lucas McGraw. I had never heard this song. I have heard many people asking for it, and Bob commented on how they asked to play this song all over the world, and how they ignored all these requests. Until last night. Frankly, I dont understand the fuss. It will not become one of my favorites, but they certainly did make it entertaining.
Well, they also played it at least year's reunion concert, which I attended. I have to say that hearing "Lucas McGraw" was the climax of the concert for me. I thought it was awesome. :)

Well... it's kind of like a cult classic with long-time Petheads. Nothing that really trips my trigger either, but a fun tune to listen to live.

You probably remember it from when they first started out, right?

Jonathan, was that a can of air freshener I saw you hiding behind your back when you were in line for the signing? Hmmmmm? :P

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The concert was spectacular. Seeing the original band perform was icing on the cake for me, and witnessing the performance of Lucas McGraw was almost more fun than I could handle in one night.

It was great seeing / meeting Reoracer, Calicowriter, Rockon, Jonathan (without his air freshener) and some other great Petheads out there. To all of you... I hope our paths can cross again at a Petra Reunion concert!

Sue D, were you there? I wanted to meet you if you were.

Not that I could ever forget any Petra concert, but this one, to me, was a very special time. The best part was getting to chat a little with the guys during the signing. Especially John Schlitt... he is one of the two nicest, most humble and sincere people I have ever met. I know he gets so bombarded with people who want to talk to him and get their picture taken with him, but he always is as genuine as can be and never seems to tire of it.

Not to take anything away from the other guys - they were all great - and thank you John DeGroff for the chat before the concert... I hope we meet again!

That was actually a bottle of Pepsi to keep me awake for my 3 1/2 hour trip back home that night.

Thanks Jen, for playing Frogger on the highway to get it for me! You rule!

Jonathan, no problem. I needed the exercise crossing the highway anyhow. Lex, I'll be sure John sees your note. :)

Jen
Thanks! He actually emailed me several months ago about a question I asked on the Zone about who played most of the guitar leads on the first two albums... I thought that was way cool. Someone from Petra actually sent me an email! I very much enjoyed talking with him at Fort Wayne. Being able to meet John as well as Greg and Bill really made the night complete. What a way to go out... having the last Petra lineup share the stage with the ORIGINAL lineup!
