About the webmaster at Petraband.com

Post by bakersfieldpethead » Sun Nov 23, 2003 5:57 am

Ok, this is getting me a little hot here.

1st: I want to say, as a webmaster and designer, I know the importance of getting the facts and history straight. I also know to get the right information before I go to upload it.

2nd: As a Petra fan and someone who knows Petra History real well, as do you guys too. What I'm seeing over at Petraband.com is unacceptable.

They have even changed to a flash based Timeline on the History of Petra and still have not put every album in the right orderI mean, ok maybe it doesnt matter to the everyday person just happening to come by and see this bands website. But every pethead knows there was no way that CITAS came out before Beat the System.how could it? Beat The System came out in 1984. CITAS was released in 1986 and further more the MC on the recording says it was Beat The System Tour 1985!

On top of that they STILL havent put in the induction to the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2000. Even more so..go click on Scrapbook oh waitwhat scrapbook are we looking at? Wow thats some scrapbook man I remember when I went to the Message board at inpop.com also. Can You? Thats some scrapbook.

Ok maybe Im over reacting, mabye I'm nit-picking but I just think that its funny that Petras own record company, a company that promotes them as well as other bandshasnt taken the time to sit down and get the History and Facts straight before they upload it on the internet.

Wheeeeeeewwwww! I got that off my chest. Ok, Im done.any thoughts?

          i'm just venting guys :D

By the way I used to be called "The Walking Encyclopedia of Christian Music." That was when I had the money to keep up with the new bands as well as studdy the old bands.........lol Now at 27 almost 28, I'm a Young/Old fart and I nit-pick......lol

OK, I have been a pethead longer than most of ya'll have been alive.
As a Pethead I do not like Petraband.com. But if someone goes there not knowing Petra it may be OK. I mean as long as they dont click on anything.

Maybe we should take over and redirect to a fan site. At least that way they would get real stuff. It was susposed to up and running like in July then they said when JAH came out. Well we can do better. Lets take over

Webmastering

Post by String » Sun Nov 23, 2003 3:35 pm

Bakersfield, as a webmaster for others, I know personally that you can only put up what the party you are working for will give you. I don't know if this is a professional service that is doing this, and (if so) they may not know the history of Petra like the Petheads or Petra may. They are just being told what to do.

As a webmaster, I run into frustrations as the people I work for do not give me the info I think is necessary to get people to come back again and again.

I, personally, like the design of the website and the layout. The content has to be received from the powers to be. A lot of times, the powers to be are not very web savy and there is where the bulk of the problem resides. A webmaster can ask various questions and probe into info the user may want out there but if it isn't given to them, there is not much the webmaster can do.

Well, that is my take on things and I am sticking to it. :)

I think Petraband.com looks great on the surface, but I have to agree wholeheartedly with Bakersfield on the content issue.

I guess I've been assuming that even though it wasn't finished, they decided to launch it anyway with more content forthcoming soon. That's been several weeks ago, though, and still there the information is either incomplete, wrong or non-existent, and guys, this is unacceptable.

Still, even if it's an outside webmaster who's waiting on Inpop to get their facts straight, they need to get their head out of the clouds. This has let go for way too long.

I mean, even someone who has never heard of Petra before can look at what's there and see that content is missing. It gives a bad impression, sorta like no one's running the ship. For all a newbie would know, Petra put this up themselves and they don't have the substance to get their own story straight. This doesn't give a good impression at all.

Petraband site

Post by jasonf » Mon Nov 24, 2003 6:42 am

I personally don't like the Petraband site
The main reasons are
1)It's not set out real well
2)It doesn't look really apealing to the eye.
3)There is not a real lot of up todate(and past) info on it.
I prefer to use John's site as it seems to be more accurate and appealing to the eye.
This is only one opinion though others may like the site

In the first place, it's a huge improvement over what it was before. It's also way better than nothing.

And it's been funnelling a steady stream of new visitors to the Inpop message board, which is a good thing. And it's letting people know that there's a new album out, and that's probably the most important function it has.

I wish everybody cared as much about Petra as we do. But it really isn't that bad.

The Site

Post by Shell » Mon Nov 24, 2003 10:39 am

I do agree that's it's better than nothing, but I think if you're going to take the time to bother to do something you should give it your best shot and make sure everything's accurate. It's not a bad site, but working on it doesn't seem to be high on the list of priorities. Maybe they should get a lady in there. :D

I'd have to agree with Spott here....yes, inaccurate information shouldn't be on a band's official site, but even if they left it as it is right now it's still way, way better than any of Petra's previous sites have ever been. It's not great, but it's far from terrible.
I mean, even someone who has never heard of Petra before can look at what's there and see that content is missing.
I'm not sure I'd agree with that. Would you care to elaborate a little? I'd have to say it's way easier for us to notice precisely because we're fanatics.

I don't believe anyone has said they hate the webmaster; I think what folks are trying to say is if they're going to bother to do this, they should put some time and thought into it.

I don't believe anyone has said they hate you either; everyone has their opinion and their preferences.

And everyone is ready to jump right in there when our favorite band is being dealt a bad hand... I'd say we are pretty good friends to have.

Well.....i'm not saying I'm not thankfull for petraband.com. I mean Petra needed an offical website.

But the person that is doing this, should take a little more time with the facts......I mean it's not like the info isn't available, with all our websites.

You know I wonder where we are number wise in fanbase websites, there has to be somebody keeping count.

There is an old saying that goes like this
"Do a job once and do it well"
If they had Petra's best interest at heart they might make the website a bit more appealing.A little easier to surf and also MORE INFO!!!
