We sang "Lift Jesus Higher" in church when I was a kid. I always looked at it that we have to lift Jesus and the preaching of cross higher to bring the world to Christ. I never really thought of it as, "yeah put him higher on the cross." What would the point of that be?

Lift Jesus Higher----"what would be the point?" If you remember the words there is a portion of the song that is quoting Jesus and says....."He said if I be lifted up....I will draw all men....."

In the Bible Jesus is referring to being lifted up on the cross and drawing all men unto Him. Hence my reference of lifting Him up higher on the cross. My point is that the song is not really sound.

Michael----your reference of sarcasm or ignorance.....curious as to who you are referencing here? Good point on the mistake versus theology. I should have picked a different song.

Are songwriters in Christian music allowed much metaphorical license without having to worry about being dissected theologically? Jesus spoke in many parables to illustrate truths.

Does "Hell" always have to refer to the final abode of the damned? What about, for example, a personal hell? A series of rough times that beset a person? The excruciating ordeal Christ went through preceding His death? While not actually Hell, the illustration is there.

I know I have been in hell all year.
My brother was killed, his killer free. My moms home flooded. My husband a jerk. My tean aged boys, well being teen aged boys. I cant see out of my glasses and cant get any more now. I need my Mom and she is on melt down like me. Every were you look this time of year there is a memory that just rubs the salt depper. The pain never stops. OH, you act like every things ok coz you are a "christian" and olny suposed to see the "good". Well, I seen none now. It fells like 10,000 years.

But I know ....... Not because of something some dead guy named Calvin said but I know because He has been in my shoes and He knows my pain. And he weeps with me. You see Jesus also loved my brother, He also knows my husband is a jerk and that my boys are very good at being tean agers. I realy do not care about the words in a song being right or wrong. I am much more concerand as to why all the "christian" people are not calling or asking if I need them. I would like for jost one person to do there "christian duty" and not judge my crying being mad as hell, for I know frogivness will come in time, not is just not the time.

So, if all you "christians could quit fighting long enough I have had a very hard day and see on good ones in site I REALY need prayer. My sister is going to loose her kids Wed. Which isnt such a bad things, but just one more thing to make me a "happy"christian.

I meant that your comment sounded like sarcasm, but I didn't know for sure if it was just ignorance of the original hymn text. Hopefully you didn't take the word "ignorance" as derogatory; ignorance isn't shameful unless someone is ignorant on purpose. :) At any rate, I just meant "not knowing something;" I didn't mean "stupid."

If I think you're stupid I'll come right out and say it. hehe Image
