Johnnie did backup vocals on all the albums. He has an awesome voice, you can hear him all over the place.leonardo d. wrote:Did John Lawry perform backup vocals on the Unseen Power album? On the Backstage Pass video it shows him doing a little backup on some of the songs

I'm sorry but Greg's vocals are so overated. They don't even fit into the rock theme Petra was and is. I've been a Petra fan since 1981 and I and many of my firends were so glad to hear that Greg had left the band. IMO he is a good AC/pop singer. I remember my secular friends at school laughing because of the way he sounded on the Petra albums; They thought of Petra as a joke. BTW they changed their tune when John came abroad and blew everything out of the water.Mountain Man wrote:Pretty good, yes, but not amazing. I don't even know if I would classify John Schlitt as amazing even though I love his voice. Now Greg Volz in the 80's was amazing.AlwaysJohnLawryFan wrote:he is pretty good...

In his prime he had a three-octave perfect pitch voice. I'd hardly classify that as overrated.executioner wrote:I'm sorry but Greg's vocals are so overated.
On the contrary, during the time Volz was with the band, he had a quintessential guitar rock voice in line with other classic groups like Kansas, Chicago, Queen, and Boston. They don't even fit into the rock theme Petra was and is.
Anecdotes don't mean much, especially since I had the exact opposite experience. My friends used to laugh at me when I talked about Christian rock, but after listening to Never Say Die, they realized that Petra was the real deal and the teasing stopped.I remember my secular friends at school laughing because of the way he sounded on the Petra albums; They thought of Petra as a joke.
