US finale weekend

Post by brothertom » Mon Dec 19, 2005 2:27 pm

Once upon a time, the Dawsonville show was going to be a special event in honor of the Petra US finale. With the announcement of the concert in Murphy, it seems like much of the 'special-ness' is being transferred to that venue. The AroundtheWorldRadio guys will be there, etc. Has Dawsonville become just another show, or is it still intended to be a special event? What do we know about the itinerary for Dawsonville & Murphy that will make it a special weekend? It will be a special weekend, regardless, but I hope that not all the thunder has been stolen from Dawsonville.

I do know that an outside professional lighting company has been hired for the Murphy, NC show. They have toured with Petra in the past. So it won't be just a basic stage setup. Supposedly moving lights, etc.

Just Petra!

As of about 3 or 4 weeks ago the promoter of the Dawsonville show was still working on putting something special together. I know he was working on a video history for prior to the show. I think we could just show CITAS (Leave it ALONE!!!!!) on the big screens and then go into the live show.

Contrary to what others have said on this board, Petra WILL be the only band playing in Dawsonville for the purpose of making the whole night Petra. After hearing that one of the other bands was claiming to be going to Dawsonville Eddie told me "then they'll be sitting in the audience with the rest of us and will not take the stage". I hope someone (I won't mention names) doesn't have any plans of treating another promoter like dirt and trying to force something on him.

I'll see if I can get a more recent update.

I know when the promoter for the Irving, Tx show was trying to get Petra they tried the same thing. It was suppose to be like a celebration for Petra and their Ministry, but they were told that the other two bands were offically part of the tour and were under contract to play all shows that Petra played, so they all were there. Wayne and his boys won out in the end.

When I firs saw the ads for the Petra show in Irving, Sarah Brendel was also a part of the tour along with Farewell June and Bread of Stone. We arrived late and did not see any of the other bands. We got there at 8 and was expecting that one of these bands would still be playing. But from previous posts, Sarah Brendel was not there. Does anyone know why this is?

For some reason she pulled out of the tour about two weeks before the Irving show, but I don't remember what reason was given.

I had read somewhere she had to go home for family reasons...I may not be remembering right, and I don't remember where I read it. That happens sometimes.

Not to excuse bad behavior or anything, and I don't know all the circumstances, but a contract is a contract, and the promoters would be wise to make sure they understand all the terms before they sign on that dotted line. They can choose not to sign a contract if they don't want to agree with the terms. If it is in the contract that the other bands are included, it's not totally unreasonable that they should be expected to follow the terms. If it's not, well then, the promoters are justified in not agreeing to it. Just a thought. Whatever the case, things can get crazy trying to plan a concert, and there are ways to work things out without being nasty about it.

There were a couple of reasons I heard for Sarah Brendel's disappearance from the tour. At the first concert I attended after she was gone, the emcee/promoter actually said onstage that she had a conflict with InPop. The next show, the reason given was a family emergency back in Germany. So, who knows. She did say onstage in Chicago that she was using members of Petra, Bread of Stone and Farewell June as her "band" because her record company would not pay for her band to come to the US.

Tha family thing may be part of it. I was told that she fired Wayne, so Wayne kicked her off of the tour.

The bands could really care less about playing this late in the game. If they still get paid, and they know that they are getting paid (meaning Wayne doesn't keep the money) I bet that they would not have a problem sitting, not coming, resting at a hotel, etc. They travel apart from Petra, so it might actually save them money not to play if this is a one-off and they are across country.

I would think if a band puts tour dates on their website, they expect to play. I know Bread of Stone probably doesn't exactly have a legion of fans, but that IS the whole point of broadcasting your tour dates. And, they are coming all the way from Iowa. Besides, Petra WAS traveling with them in the US part of the tour, and they may very well be Petra's transportation to these shows.

I hope that the promoters and Wayne and whoever else needs to be involved all talk now and clear the air because it won't be fair to anyone if the days of the shows are full of hostility.

The promoter in Enid paid an extra fee to be able to state that his show was the last on the Farewell tour.

That means the shows in GA & NC are not "officially" part of the tour, and as such, there should be no other bands contracted to play.

Well, that being the case, they don't have to allow other bands to play at the concerts in NC and GA. :)

Honoring contracts does work both ways.

I think it would be really great to have Petra there as the only artist, but will they actually play longer and/or different songs to fill in the time gap?

That would explain why the last two shows were always a different color than the other "Farewell Tour" shows listed on Huie's H2O site. I wonder why Bread of Stone would have said they are going to be there though? I don't see Petra needing a band from Iowa providing transportation from Nashville to Atlanta. With it being a four hour trip, I'll take a big church van and come get them.
