other rock bands from Petra's era

I was wondering what you guys think of some of the other groups that made it relatively big in Christian music. I really liked WhiteHearts stuff from Don't Wait For the Movie onward, especially their Freedom album. DeGarmo & Key overall was pretty good, although some of their lyrical writing needed some help. Of course Stryper will always be remembered. I still need to get their stuff on CD. Mylon & Broken Heart was ok. I never really liked the Allies too much, although I liked the song, "Long Way From Paradise." Altar Boys were pretty good. I liked WhiteCross until they went to StarSong. Most of Geoff Moore and the Distance's stuff I liked. Barren Cross was pretty cool.

Just wondering what were some of your guy's other favorites besides Petra.

I bought a CD of Kinetic Faith by Bride, but that was a waste of money because I didn't like it. I also borrowed a Whitecross By Demand CD from someone a few years ago, but I didn't really care for Whitecross's music very much either.

Aside from rock, I have a couple Rich Mullins tapes (Songs 1 and Songs 2) and they're okay, not my favorite style of music but some songs, like "Alrightokuhuhamen" and "Verge of a Miracle," are really cool. I also listened to my parents' tape of Amy Grant's The Collection when I was younger - "Emmanuel" and "Where do you hide your heart" are great songs. I like to play "Emmanuel" and "Thy Word" on the piano.

The only Petra-era christian band I normally listen to is Stryper, since I like how they sound. I've been interested in listening to Whiteheart and DeGarmo & Key, but I don't have any of their albums

Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart, Rez Band, some Bride, some Stryper, I even have a CD by a band called Sacred Warrior thats...interesting.

You need to get early WhiteCross. Also White Heart was very good also, but they never really seemed to be able to get over the hump. Most of their music/lyrics are written from an emotional stand point.

2. Rez
3. White Heart
4. Stryper
5. Barren Cross

My Favorite out of the bunch is by far Bloodgood, I almost like them as much as Petra.

Amy Grant's the Collection was the first Christian casette I ever bought. I really liked Thy Word, and Sing Your Praise to the Lord (better than Rich Mullin's version.) A little before that a friend of mine let me borrow a couple of Rich Mullins casettes, Michael W. Smith, and WhiteHeart. WhiteHeart became one of my favorites, but I had just become a Christian, and I listened to Awesome God over and over and over. I almost wore out my friend's cassette just on that one song. A little bit later I bought Carmen's Radically Saved, Stryper's In God We Trust and To Hell with the Devil, and a Dino (not knowing what or who Dino was) tape.

I always thought Carmen was talented, but I also thought he should have been sponsored by Kraft Macoroni and Cheese, because he was the cheesiest.

I liked Bride's Rattlesnakes in the Playground, and the one the one they had before that, Kinetic Faith, I think. I liked some of Rez's stuff too. Holy Soldier's first album was really good, as was Novella's. Novella's second album was horrible though.

About that time I started listening to different styles, trying to find stuff that certain people in my youth group would like. I had a Sacred Warrior one too. It was called Weapons of My Warfare and it was well done.

I also really like Code of Ethics first album, Visual Paradox, a kind of Depeche Mode sound. Another group's first album with a similar sound that was really good was Painted Orange. I didn't care too much for Code of Ethics later stuff, although I did really like their song "Well Done". I don't think they were singing about how they liked their steak cooked though.

A friend of mine when I first became a Christian really liked a band called LSU or Life Savers Underground. Their music was pretty cool, but their lyrics were a bit wierd to say the least.

I forgot about the Choir and Undercover. Man those guys were good too. Remember that great Undercover song "God Rules". Man they put a lot of thought into the lyrics of that song.

My favorite artists/albums include:
White Heart-"Highlands"; Whitecross-"Hammer and Nail"; Rez-"Civil Rites"; Stryper-"To Hell With The Devil"; Russ Taff-"Russ Taff"(this isn't as hard as the others, but, has an edge to it); Barren Cross-"State of Control"; AD-"Art of the State"; Altar Boys-"Against The Grain" ; Bloodgood-"Rock in a Hard Place"
That's not all, but, I didn't want to "go on forever".

Duke crossed over the Petra era by two years and that was part of the sacred period...therefore, he should totally count.

I Always thought he should have been a crooner in the tradition of the Rat Pack. Would've been a great improvement.

As far as the 80s go

Stryper - hands down

WhiteHeart - I have just about everything, i want to get their last 2 albums the ones they did on Warner/Aliance

WhiteCross they only had one album before going to StarSong, unless StarSong just re-issued everything when they went to the label. My favorite is Equilibreium.

Jerusalem i loved their live album

in the 90s
I loved some of the "In Reach" stuff
and also a band called "7th Angel" or something like that I remember they dropped the "7th" after a while.

I wish PFR would make another come back
I wish WhiteHeart would at least do a Reunion Tour
