My point was I don't think there will be as much of a turnout as they're anticipating, and I agree you have the option of simply not going. I don't pretend to know what all is involved in putting together a concert. It just seems that it would have gone more smoothly if there had been a little more advanced planning, especially for people traveling long distances. That's just my opinion though, and it's not written in stone. This is a discussion board, and my opinions shouldn't be taken as complaining or the final word. I've said several times who they work with is up to them too, and they have the option of not accepting concert dates too as Edward pointed out. I'm not trying to make anyone out to be a victim or a villain here.

You never know, things might go very well that night. Probably the best thing to do is pray for them.

Hi all.

Been lurking for a while and decided to post here. Me and a friend have tickets to the Murphy show. When I received the e-mail about the second show it was a mixed blessing to say the least. I became a Petra fan back in the Mid 80's. Was at Church Camp and they had a whole Secular Rock music is evil, backmasking time. They presented Christian Rock as a safe alternative. Petra's "More Power To Ya" was played and at that point I was hooked. "Stand Up" is still my favorite Petra song because of that week. Time passes, go off to college forget about the whole thing. Fast forward to May 2005. I'm now working as an assistant advisor to my church youth group. As it turns out, Petra was playing at a local music festival in the area as a late addition to the "Jekyll & Hyde" tour. We took a couple of the youth with us and as my member name suggests I rediscovered Petra. On top of that we were able to introduce Petra to the youth of our church.
To make a long story short. After that concert, we ended up going to both Farewell concerts in Ohio. After the first one, the youth that went talked to other youth and convinced us to plan a second trip so they could hear them as well.
During all of this Me and a friend of mine decided to go to the Murphy NC concert. One of the youth wanted to go with us but for money reasons as well as coordinating with social workers it was not going to be practical.
So, back to the origional adding a second show. As long time Petra fans we were (and are) excited to hear that Greg X Voltz is singing. I love Johns voice and has been a blessing to listen to in concerts. Greg though is the "voice of Petra" from my youth.
On the down side, we need to spend extra money that wasn't budgeted for this trip to see him perform. Being the fact that we are 2 adults with OK jobs the extra money is not a big deal. Had we had some of our youth with us it could have turned into a bigger deal quick. Along with the church we have supplimented their ability to go do the things this past summer. They wouldn't have had the money to afford a second show. That would us in the position of either missing the second show and hearing Greg sing, or footing at least part of the bill for them as well.
I think the second show will be well attended but I think the majority of people will be like us. We already have tickets to the first show, we are traveling over 8 hours to get there, what else are we going to do on New Years Eve in a strange town. I'm betting a large contingent of people from the first show are going to stay for the second show. The number of "additional people" who are going to be able to hear Petra that night is fairly small.

Petra's last concert?

Post by jacuzzi » Mon Dec 26, 2005 9:46 am

In response to the remark that a church is negotiating dates for a concert in March/April and having trouble because petra is so booked already??
I just got off the phone with Petra's exclusive booking agent. He said there is nothing booked after the 31st of this month, with the exception of a Brazil concert that has to be made up because it was cancelled because of visa problems. He said you can verify this by calling him, Scott Huii, at H20 agency (770)736-5363.[/quote]

That may or may not be true. Maybe they are talking with Wayne, not Scott, and the availability issue is not a Petra thing per se, but an individual members thing. Just some thoughts to broaden the horizon of argument here.

To shine a light on some of the happenings in Murphy..... I spoke with Pastor Fields this afternoon and he would like me to clarify some things in regards to this second show. Some of this has already been established, but there are a few other things that need to be stated.

To begin with:
The idea for a 2nd show was not Pastor Fields', it was Huie/Seboa - or a combination thereof.

Since the first show sold out so quickly, Pastor Fields was approached by Huie, asking if he would consider adding another show.

He agreed, not as a means to make more money or enrage those who already bought tickets, but to give the fans who would not have been able to get into the first show an opportunity to attend the second show. He did offer those who already bought tickets the first chance at buying more for the second show... again, not to rake in the cash but to try and be fair to those who were already coming to town.

The church has really extended themselves financially in adding a second show, but felt strongly that it was the right thing to do. Spreading the Gospel is their first concern, according to Pastor Fields.

In regards to Greg's appearance:
Greg was added to the bill by the Pastor in response to many fans who have emailed him asking if Greg or any other former members would appear.

While we tend to think that all the Petra fans hang out on the Zone, we need to remember that there are many others who do not frequent message boards or post on them. So apparently there was a definite outcry for Greg and management gave approval to put him on during the second show.

Exactly how Greg will take the stage is yet to be seen. It has not been settled yet if he will actually perform with Petra, or act as a lead-in. That will be decided shortly by management, but as of now - it's still up in the air.

GHF was a group that the Pastor wanted to bring in also, but funds were just too short to bring them down. That's not to say it won't happen in the future, but for now - it simply wasn't possible.

2006 Petra Dates:
As jacuzzi stated, the only for-sure show at this point will be the make-up show in Brazil. Huie has nothing else on the books. It is possible that Seboa may be negotiating with Executioner's church directly, though that's not really the role of a manager. Edward makes a good point that availability may not be a Petra issue, but the individual members'.

If the DVD comes out as scheduled in spring, there's a very good chance there will be promoters requesting dates, and if that's the case - then Petra will probably do more dates and Murphy will not be the last show.

No one knows what the promoter reaction will be, so for now people need to see Murphy as the last show - and if it's not, well... then isn't that a good thing? I understand a person spending the bucks to go Murphy to be able to say "I went to Petra's last show," but really - wouldn't it be nice to see Petra continue on, even if for a few more shows here & there?

If our real desire is to see lives changed and people saved by the group's music, then whenever and whatever date their last show happens to fall on shouldn't matter.

Dawsonville vs. Murphy:
If Dawsonville on Dec. 30 was told he couldn't have Dec. 31 because John was already booked in Myrtle Beach, then John was bumped and Murphy put in it's place anyway - then the Dawsonville promoters have every right to be upset at not having the title of "the last Petra show." I'm sure the addition of Murphy hurt their plans and ticket sales to some extent.

But the Murphy pastor can't be blamed for that. He would have no way of knowing what was said or not said prior to his booking inquiry.

All that said, I just want to affirm that the Pastor of the Murphy show is not looking to get rich, nor rip anyone off, or upset fans that thought they were going to see the last show at 7 p.m.

He simply wanted to give more people the opportunity to see the band one last time (as far as we know).

And as long as John gets to Myrtle Beach on Jan. 1 and doesn't keel over from exhaustion before he goes on stage - I'll be happy.

To regards to the 2006 shows. I really don't know who are church coordinator has been in contact with so I will have to call him to see, but he was very specific with me about the open dates. He said they were having to neogiate a date because of the lack of open dates. Sue and some people around here know how Wayne works and this could be totally a Wayne thing and have nothing to do with Scott Huie and his agency.

I do personally feel that there will be more dates added for the release of the DVD. This will give the DVD more promotion. It is obvious there is a demand for shows.

Sounds like a messy situation. I had really hoped GHF would go, and thought about making the trip down by myself after GHF was told no, but am kind of glad it didn't happen. I have a short fuse, and this uncertainty would have really set me on edge. I am sure the shows will be great, but for now, I have dealt with my farewells to Petra.

I hope those of you going have a great time.

Jen

PS Thanks for the explanations, Sue...

What a night!!!

Post by jacuzzi » Sun Jan 01, 2006 6:39 pm

Anybody else go?? Awesome shows!! The band pulled out all the stops for the 2nd concert in my opinion! Bob Hartman let loose on his guitar solos! Amazing! They played til well after 1 am and they were finishing autographs around 2:30. Then we hung out and watched John do an interview for Around the World til about 3. Give or take a few minutes, it is all fuzzy at this point. I've had less than 2 hours sleep cause we were up again to see Greg at church this am again. He was wonderful in ministering to the entire crowd!

These guys are sure gonna be missed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both shows were great! The first show was full, the second was 2/3rd full. They let people into the 2nd for $10 if you had a ticket for the first show. I took several pictures but almost none turned out because of the darkness and the fog machines, but I'll post a few later anyway. I video'd almost the entire 2nd show and hoped to get some online later. The first concert set list was basically the Farewell CD song list. Plus a copule others that were played at the live concert.
I enjoyed myself anyway. I met a few Petheads from my local area I didn't know existed and a few from the live show.
Check my website in a few days and I'll try to post pics & vids. I met someone else who took some pics & vids and i'll try to post some of his pics too. He was the sound/light guy for the church in Murphy.

I agree both shows were great. I got a little more sleep than you did jacuzzi. We left about the church about 2:30 am went to Super Wal-Mart and got some frozen dinners to microwave in our room. We ended up getting to bed about 3:30. Got up at about 7:30 and made it to church. Greg did a great job at church Sunday morning. A good mix of Classic petra songs and new songs from I guessing his praise album with stories and ministering in between. Barbara did a good job giving the "sermon".
