that song had me longing for something I never thought I would long for -- Steven Tyler.

I take it you're not an Aerosmith fan.
I liked it, but it won't be to everyone's liking. I've always loved Greg's voice but it's a matter of personal taste.

What did I think of Greg Volz's version of "Dream On"? You probably shouldn't ask me. I'm not one of Greg's biggest fans anyway, and that song had me longing for something I never thought I would long for -- Steven Tyler. It just didn't seem right to me. There are so many good Christian songs out there; I don't see the need to manipulate secular songs to fit the occasion.
First off, I am a fan of both Greg and John. I actually can remember back when More Power To Ya was a new album (my first). So Greg's was the first voice I knew. I do however tend to lean toward John as my preference, not just for his voice but because the music shifted to better fit his voice and I liked the direction Petra went.
As far as Greg covering 'Dream On', I can understand where you're coming from about it not fitting the occasion. I'll just say this as a blanket statement: I like hearing vocalist I like putting their own stamp on a song that I like even if it is a cover. I felt the same way when John covered the three Greg era songs on Doubletake. I would go so far as saying I would like to hear Greg cover some John era songs. Beyond Belief, Reach Out and Love are a few that come to mind.

The Possum drop is not in Murphy. It is in Brasstown NC. The town of Andrews NC is between the 2. Not a lot of miles though.
We used to have land in Brasstown and I have been to a Possum drop. Printed some of the T Shirts one year too. It is a lot of fun.

Sorry to have to be the one to straighten you out on geography BUT. Brasstown, NC is approximately 2, maybe 3 miles southeast of On Fire Family Church, which is located in the Peachtree Community of Murphy, NC. Brasstown is actually located between Murphy and Hayesville, NC just off of Hwy 64 East. If you want to be technical about it, it is between Murphy and Warne, NC on old Hwy 64, more commonly known as Warne Road. Now Andrews, NC on the other hand, is located Northeast of Murphy and is actually about 15 miles from the church and 17-18 miles from Brasstown. You can see a map of the area at
www.onfirefamilychurch.org.
The Possom Drop has grown into quite a large affair but we had quite an affair this New Year's Eve too!!! Murphy would be a wonderful place for a reunion! How bout it!

While you guys get your facts straight about Possum droppings, I'm going to bed. It's the Lord's Day tomorrow (as if there is one that isn't). Good Night

Your very blessed to be able to do that. That would be a dream for me. I've never seen Petra live. If I see or get to go to a concert a year thats pushing it for me. Sucks being in Connecticut and being poor.

Yes Rich, you are correct -- I am blessed, VERY blessed. Not just in my ability to see Petra, but in a lot of ways. I am certainly not rolling in dough, but praise God, I am doing much better than I did for many, many years.
Just think though...in a few short weeks, you'll have the DVD of the Franklin concert and you'll be able to watch it as often as you'd like.

I pay tax up there and are often. I could also say Brasstown was just past Young Harris GA. And all would still be in the same place. I have lived in Brasstown NC and Hayesville.
As you know in the south we may not git there by a map or SE or NE. Just over there and by that is good.
I could say the road to my place in Brasstown is by the Hospitle in Peachtree. But that would not be corect. You have to turn off that RD 4 times befor you get to it.
I have also been to that church. But your map does not tell me it is beside Christian Love. But we all sitll in the same place. I just say it one way and you another. I dont think is going to get up and move. But maybe if it did I would not have to pay taxes in Brasstown NC.

I don't know if a Petra reunion would be possible - but we sure could have a John Schlitt reunion - he does have a solo band that I know would be more than thrilled to come on down.
Wanna start planning now?

Pethead1, I was just clarifying Brasstown was not near Andrews. I didn't mean to set you off. The church, however, is no longer beside Christian Love since we moved to our new location. Be blesssed, go with God. Jacuzzi

Jacuzzi, dont worry, you did not set me off. Just rambling. I do NOT like maps and stuff like that. But from were my place is Andrews is quicker than Murphy.
I live in a town called Dacula. Kinda known now but people used to ask were is that and I would say between Hog Mt. and Harbins, neather of witch are "real towns" nor found on a map. I am just funny that way.
But we are all still were we are and I have tax bills in 2 states.

Sorry everyone - I didn't mean to start a big argument over the Possum drop. Just trying to be funny!
It was an incredible blessing to be there for the last concerts!
As for Greg X's rendition of Dream On, I was thinking "is he really singing what I think he's singing?" Song selection aside, I was blown away by his range! I hadn't seen him in concert for a very long time!
Sue - YES!!! Lets start planning!

Thx for the welcome.

I'd love to start planning something.....
jacuzzi, would you and Tommy like to consider another Dec. 31 event with John?
There are many Petheads who have lots of talent - we could set up a whole evening of fun and fellowship, with John headlining, plus doing the church service the next day.
jacuzzi, please mention the idea to your husband - it's never to early to start thinking about it!

For a quick peek at the infamous guest of honor at the Possum Drop, see
http://www.thecherokeescout.com/
Make sure to check out the newly crowned "Miss Lower Pine Log" too!
I just love home-town festivals!
I'm going to see about getting a copy of the article on Petra also, to post on the site.
