Yup, I just saw that this morning.

Bandwidth again.... people must be downloading like crazy. Probably the Ft. Wayne concert.

I'm going to have to add more $$ for the month... as I said before - for all those who enjoy downloading all the stuff we have on there - remember, while you get the audio/video for free, there IS a cost to running this thing.

The advanced plan is $180/year - and obviously it's still not enough.

MJ has set up mirrors to help carry the load - and it's still not enough.

The kitty to pay for the extra bandwidth is down to $50some bucks - it's January, and it's still not enough.

Please - if you want us to keep loading vids & audio - I really would appreciate some help in paying for extra bandwidth when the site goes down like this.

I'll have to add in another $20 - which will give us an extra 40 gigs for January only.... sigh...

mirrors

Post by Michael » Wed Jan 18, 2006 9:14 am

And listen, guys... if you have a Web site and you don't use all of your traffice every month, and you have a little bit of extra space, PLEASE let us know if you can mirror files! We set things up so that we will not send more traffic to you than you say is available to us... say, if you have a 20GB bandwidth plan and you know you'll never use more than 5GB yourself, tell us we can have 15GB and we'll only send you 15GB of traffic. Then when there's a new file, put it on your server and you will immediately be helping us out. You can opt out of mirroring by simply erasing the file from your server at any time, so if something goes haywire you can easily get out. We don't even require that you provide us FTP access... you just download the file yourself and put it where we expect to find it.

It's safe and easy, and it may well be what keeps John's site on the air when we have one of these really popular files up. The more sites we have donating 5 or 10 GB... well, say we have 10 sites and each donates 10 GB of bandwidth. That gives us 100 GB more before John's site goes down! There's safety in numbers in this case. :)

Help us out if you can!

I've been emailing and calling our host server since yesterday morning - and still am waiting for them to contact me.

It's really frustrating.

I can always tell when the site is down because Sue's avatar and signature banner disappear.

I believe you are correct... linking directly to a file that is not an HTML file on Yahoo Geocities is blocked, if I remember correctly.

Here's another option... let's have a show of hands for people who use Bittorrent? It would REALLY help, but we have to have people who are using it and keeping it running all of the time. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't raise your hand. :)

"Bittorrent" ...... sounds like a hurricane ready to happen.

Its, if you would help with whatever this is - that would be great!

We have a number of people mirroring files, and we are STILL shutting down.

I'm working with the host server to get the site back up again... and they're not very speedy on this. It's very frustrating. I'm tired of giving them extra money for crummy service.

Bittorrent

Post by Michael » Fri Jan 20, 2006 2:58 pm

Bittorrent is a way of sharing files... while I am downloading the file with Bittorrent, I am simultaneously making it available for someone else to download. It's pretty handy, but I'm not positive that we can easily make it happen. There would be some effort involved in setting up the torrent and getting it up to speed.

I sent an e-mail to [e-mail address removed] but in case I need to notify someone else...

I can spare 5GB/month of transfer. Let me know what I need to do to get started...
