Yes, but the display case would showcase the CDs for generations to come, allowing you to listen to the music via your implant.whiteknight951 wrote:It is an I-POD world now. LP's, and cassettes are HISTORY! CD's are heading that way. The music market is going to downloading. If John can make something that holds the IPOD or some form of an ipod with speakers he'll be on to something that will appeal to more than just the "petra" people. maybe something that will also work in the car for the ipod. I work for that big box electronic company that is blue and gold "great buy". The music scene is all IPOD. The stores can't keep IPOD in stock. Perhaps, on top of the unit there can be a figure of John or Bob dancing when the music plays....hehehehe.

check out these wooden headphones!
I think whiteknight was probably referring to a safe container to put the Ipod in when it's not in use, so it's less likely to get damaged or lost.

my too sense
Maybe he can build one of those old-fashioned Edison-style phonograph players (with the horn) - so that any of you who have vinyl Petra albums can listen to them the way people listened to records in the 20's or so. Just for the crazy heck of it.
(Of course, that's just a completely bogus idea)

I saw a Victrola on sale for 300 bucks a few years ago-and if I could have figured out a way to ship it thousands of miles to my home I soooo would have bought it. Fabulous sound with the 78's.
He could totally make one of those, but call it a Schlirola....

Ask me an answer and I will tell you the question
Child of the 90's has questions:
Victrola - is that a brand name of record player? What are 78's?

Syndicated Continental
Well, Brain dude, I am neither Chinese nor Japanese. Actually, I am Americanese. 100% Caucasian, but with a fake Asian name. Yamasaki. But my real name is Dan. You can call me either one.
I am, however, studying the Japanese language because I think it sounds really cool, and I'm really fascinated by Japanese culture.
Same thing for the Spanish language and Latin America.
Not to mention Portuguese and Italian.
Maybe Korean someday.
I enjoy being continental.

Here is a Victrola something like the one I wanted:
They were made by RCA Victor (hense the name). They were kind of like Kleenexes and Ski-doos; a brand that came to represent the actual product. The cabinet models are surprisingly loud and full sounding.
And here is a 78 by the legendary Ethel Waters:

They were smaller than a 33 lp, but bigger than a 45, and predate both. They were in between the cylendar and vinyl eras, made of hardened shellac. I think the 45 began to over take the 78 in the late 40's or 50's. They were not as rigid, and therefore fragile, as 78's. I have personally broken about 10 78's.
Technically, 78 refers to 'revolutions per minute' (as do the other numbers). Each side of a 78 had about 3 minutes on it so longer songs, like Duke Ellington's Reminiscing in Tempo, actually had be broken up to fit on multiple records (2 for Duke-4 parts to the 11 minute song).
