I love the metaphor in Road to Zion.

Uf, I voted "Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows" after figth a lot with myself. I wish have another five votes for this album: "More power to ya", "Judas Kiss", "Disciple", "Second Wind" and "Run for the Prize". I Think this poll is the first really complicated poll of three or four coming.

There are four good songs that could easily be voted for in my opinion - Judas' Kiss, Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows (try saying that five times in a row fast), More Power To Ya, and Road to Zion...

I was only 1 year old when this album came out...but this vote MUST go to Judas' Kiss.
For me, it is one of only five songs from the Greg X. Volz era that had an immediate hook...all the rest have had to grow on me.

On a side note - I have two mint-condition MPTY CD's - and each one has an annoying glitch in the middle of Judas' Kiss and Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows (sounds like an electronic tapping/scratching sound) this is the ONLY Petra CD I have with this issue - does anyone know where or how I can do one of two things: Remove the glitches via digital editing OR find a glitch-free version of either (preferably both) songs?

Well looks like Judas Kiss is making a killing here.

Yeah the upcoming albums are really gonna be tough because we have a great string of petra albums to look forward to. :D

If you tell me at exactly what point (time) "Judas Kiss" and "Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows" I can listen to my CD and see if it has that glitch.

I'll be glad to tell you at what time marks my CD has that glitch...however, since I have internet capabilities only at work (and then only on my breaks), I won't be able to get back to you on this until around 3:00 PM central time Monday afternoon (I don't work Sundays)...the glitches (I don't know what else to call them since I have the problem on both CD's at the same spot) occurs at approximately the 2-2 1/2 minute mark on RCSGW, right after the second chorus when they are doing their instrumental break (or is it after the first verse?)...I'm not so sure about where in the song the issue occurs on Judas' Kiss...but I'll get back with that info on Monday.

Silly me... I was listening to this album today and forgot to look out for any "glitches". As for "All Over Me" this is the first time in a while that I've listened to it and I think it'd be a better song if they dropped one chorus and doubled up two of the verses. Then take the last 30 seconds and change it to instrumental (ie no vocals). Kinda like the ending of RCSGW.

Yeah the difficulty of this poll reminded me of when I gave my sister a list of songs on albums by year and asked her to name her two favorite songs off of each one. The idea being I wanted to created a "best of" for each year. I reserved the third song for myself to pick to offset what she picked. For example if she picked to slow ones I could pick a faster one for better balance.

Anyways I remember her talking about how hard it was to pick "just two" from certain albums. As can be seen my tastes changed over the years. What qualified as my favorite 15 years ago got pushed down in favor of other songs. Judas Kiss is a good example of one of those songs which most likely could also be considered the best song on the album for reasons other than personal taste.

On RCSGW, the glitches (which sound like electronic tapping or scratching) occur after the first chorus, during the instrumental break after the second chorus, and on the final chorus itself.

On Judas' Kiss, the glitches are less prominent, but appear on between the 2:30 mark and the end of the song.

Like I said, I have this issue on both CD's at the same spots.

However, I saw that both of these songs are supposed to be included on an upcoming compilation project...if this is the case, perhaps the best option will be to wait until that comes out and go from there (even though I despise the compilation projects as they never have anything new).

greenchili wrote:Alright everybody thanks for voting on the previous poll. Moving on...

With the recent ending of Petra's music ministry I thought it'd be kind of cool to start a series of polls on favorite songs. Starting with their first album and working to the last. I figured I'd do an album each week.

So for those interested, get out your petra CD's and start listening.

Voting for last weeks album "Never Say Die" has completed or will soon. Seems we are missing two voters but we must move on. Results from the previous poll.

Angel Of Light [9]
Praise Ye The Lord [5]i lov this one
Chameleon [4]
The Coloring Song [3]
For Annie [ 2 ]
Killing My Old Man [1]
Father Of Lights [1]
Without Him We Can Do Nothing [0]
Never Say Die [0]
I Can Be Friends With You [0]

The clear winner is.....! Angel Of Light. Even with the two missing votes this song woulda, coulda, shoulda won.

Next up? "More Power To Ya" released in 1982. The album where all the pieces finally fell together. A few notes.

1) Apparently Bob really likes this album and considers it one of petra's best. (read it in some liner notes somewhere).
2) Cool guitar cover (hey I couldn't help myself)
3) Louie Weaver's now listed as being part of petra
4) This album made #98 in CCM Magazines "100 Greatest Albums In Christian Music". As usual they get in a jab about the God-focused lyrics . Critics...
5) First christian song to use backmasking?
6) Am I the only one that prefers dental work over listening to "All Over Me"?

Anyways... go ahead and spin your discs and put in your vote!!!
