Answer this Greg Volz question

Post by unlost » Sat Feb 11, 2006 9:46 am

why did he get a divorce?

And nobody gimme the "private issue" explanation. I'd rather hear "i don't know" than avoid the subject.

^i've seen so many responses not paying attention!^

Why don't you email him and ask:

[email protected]

Now, if you don't have the cahoonah's to ask Greg, then you really have no need for the information.

Okay, soapbox time:

I know I have said this sort of thing before, but what goes on or went on in someone's marriage is NOT something that should be discussed on a message board, and that's no matter who it is. The fact is, nobody but the people involved could really know all the circumstances. None of us here really know what happened, so we would be the wrong people to try to get information from. Why would you want to know that anyway? Who are you trying to benefit by knowing that? Good test: Ask yourself if you would you want your business to be discussed on a message board (and yes, I am sure you have personal business you wouldn't want discussed here). If not, it's not right to expect something from them you wouldn't want for yourself. 'Nuff said.

You know, you really have a lot of nerve. If Brent does give you her
e-mail and you contact her, I hope she tells you it's none of your business. Why would you need to have that information? What you're doing here is WRONG, mi amigo. Would you want someone you don't know to e-mail you asking about your divorce?

I have an email address. I do not know how current it is. I will not give it, because one could do enough googling and find it.

Petra is done. Greg still has a ministry that we is working. So does Becky. So, why do things to damage that? There was a time in my past, when I was a little legalistic, and I enjoyed laboring to strive for the honest truth behind these types of things. Then I grew up, and learned first hand, that things done in the past, by other people, are not of my concern. It is not even God's. He forgot about it. So should we. Now that is not saying that we will not see the affects, the reaping of seeds sown, etc. But we are not deserving of any info.

I do feel that him(Greg) being on front page of CCM for a few years leads up to him and others being looked up too and also they I believe are given a responsibility because they are in a public ministry, but than on the other hand I frankly think it is none of our business. I also feel that if that had happen while he was with Petra that I feel he should have step aside, but I really don't know when it occured.

I do understand what you're saying, Exe, but that applies to all of us too, and I'm sure the rest of us who happen to be married or have been married and divorced wouldn't want all the glorious details discussed publicly. There is a place to say "I have some issues to deal with, I'm going to spend some time doing what I need to to make sure my heart is right with the Lord and I'm doing what He wants. Please pray for me." That doesn't mean they have to go into all the details. It's very rare for one party to be completely at fault in a divorce; there is usually right and wrong on the part of both people. Someone being the bigger idiot in a given situation is usually what it boils down to. :P To be fair, you'd have to get both Becky and Greg's side, and why would you want to go to the time and trouble of doing that?

I don't know when this happened either, but I do know he and Becky were still married as of 1986, which was the time he left Petra.

I agree with ya'll completely.

I hope what I am about to say is won't sound to harsh. If it does then I am sorry.

If I was a singer and something came up that I had to get a divorce, it is noone's business about my life. It would be between God, me and my spouse. Noone has the right to get into anyone's business. Yeah it is alright to be curious but not but in someone's business.

Why isn't the "private issue" explanation good enough?

Because we are fallen and things don't always go the way they should. Thank God for his Son! How much we still need his grace.

Jonothan

At least you actually listened to my question while everyone else went off as usual whenever this issue comes up.

There are no winners in divorce, but if we keep avoiding addressing the issue we are turning our heads at the seriousness of it all which leads others to think it's no big deal if they don't honor their vows.

I am seeing an increase in Christian musicians getting divorced. And even though every says it's a personal issue, it seems to be imposed on us that we should just go on without expecting an explanation. I won't go into the list but there are more than a dozen popular CCM artists that divorced. Remember when Amy Grant said she didn't expect people to understan, but she "felt peace" about her decision? And coincidentally Vince Gill gets a convenient divorce for them to get together. That's flimsy. God doesn't lead you by peace that breaks covenants. Try talking to the children involved and see if their filled with peace.

Or if ya want me to accept your view, then don't critisise your spouse if they leave you! JUST SHUT UP and remember the things you posted here.

I have a new Greg Volz question that will hopefully steer the conversation away from the other question.

It has been said that comparing his voice to John Schlitt's voice is "like comparing apples to oranges." So who's the apple and who's the orange?

You never answered my question about whether you had issues you wouldn't want discussed on a message board. Are you expecting of others what you don't want for yourself? If you want to be consistent in what you're saying, you'd have to know the details of every divorce that ever happened. You really want to go to all the trouble trying to do that?
And how do you figure someone else's divorce is an imposition on you? If you would spend a little more time being concerned about what goes on in your own life and a little less time demanding information from other people, maybe it wouldn't be an imposition.

I'm sort of wondering if you're married, too, and how your marriage is going if you are. Want to answer that one?

ok you ae using the "let him who has no sin cast the first stone" argument. that's fine, and we can talk about me all ya want. I'd be glad to expose something in my life if i think it will help someone. Maybe that's my answer. Maybe they think it causes more trouble than help. What I'm getting at is Christians are getting away scott free with no accountability under the guise of "personal issue".
Thank you Bill Clinton.
