CITAS Question

Post by Petra24 » Thu Feb 09, 2006 12:40 pm

I know it was a loooooong time ago but does anyone know if the recording of CITAS was done in the same manner as Farewell? Curious if it was a one shot recording of each song or if they played songs over to get them right????

Any old people out there that attended the event?

Oh, I'm SO offended at being called OLD!

Actually, I didn't attend, but according to the packaging, it was recorded live during two regular live concerts, as opposed to in a studio like Farewell.

Becky Volz was instrumental in getting this thing made; it was actually a company she worked for or with who taped it. She was involved in videos and producing such at the time. She had said that in a matter of days the crew was organized and .... the rest is history.

That explains why the video looks like it was produced by people unfamiliar with Petra's music.

Thank you for joining the CITAS faction. We're a small but cheery band of friends who would stop at nothing to end the tyranny by those who promote the filth that is CITS.

History records that even Joseph Stalin maintained the CITS position.

CITAS was not staged. The band did have multiple video shoots prior to the concerts that made CITAS. Louie has a copy of those shows. Some of those shows were better than the final CITAS according to Louie.

What they did was take the best of the night's shows and assemble it. So, no, they did not stop and start. They fixed very, very little. The stuff that they did fix was not so much to correct playing errors, but was for enhancement.

I was always impressed with the quality of the musicians on CITAS. I know JDB made a point that very little was done in post production. It will be a shame if this never makes it to DVD.

I Was There

Post by pastorg » Tue Feb 14, 2006 2:00 pm

I was at the Greenville, South Carolina concert. I was in junior high, and our youth pastor took us to the show. The concert was very special because it was my first rock concert (my parents were into country music back then). If the band announced that they were taping the show, I don't remember. No songs were repeated however. Since they taped 3 seperate performances, they would be able to take the best performances from each show, thus eleminating the need for repeating songs.

On a side note, the place was packed, and it was one of my favorite concerts for years. This was, hands down, the best touring incarnation of Petra, and yes, I did see the band with John S., and I enjoyed that era as well.

The insert for the audio CD lists it as being recorded at three different places. Two in SC and one in TN. Checked the closing credits on the video didn't really see any locations listed.

I believe the video was recorded at the Greenville, SC concert. The box doesn't reveal much, but I think Greg Volz greets the audience with: 'Hello, Greenville, SC.'

In the Michael W. Smith big picture tour in once song he says "It's good to be in Iowa" and in another song I think he says something different.

I suppose with a close examination of the audience one may be able to determine if CITAS was filmed in more places than one.

But according to our resident expert it was assembled from seperate concerts.
I was at the Greenville, South Carolina concert.
You forgot to tell us where in the concert you were so we can look for ya!

I checked the video credits on the back of the video and it says: Audio produced and recorded by Jonathan David Brown; Recorded and taped at Greenville Auditorium, Greenville, SC.

So I believe the video is from Greenville, SC, while the audio might be from those three shows mentioned in the lyrics sheet / inlay of the audio releases. And to suppport to 1-evening-film-option: the stage-setting is the same throughout the whole video, just as the clothing of the guys in the band. And I really cannot imagine that you would want to wear those sweaty clothes for another concert...

Multiple shows, same venue. Just because the video came from one night, doesn't mean the audio has to.

Yes they carry multiple outfits and have dry cleaning services avaliable on the road. That's part of the road managers job is to get the show clothes cleaned. Besides, there are plenty of bands, including Petra, that have had to wear the same clothes for more than two shows, out of necessity.
